Compare the Best Sportsbooks in Michigan

DraftKings Sportsbook

DraftKings has seamlessly shifted from being a daily fantasy sports company to establishing itself as a formidable force in the sportsbook industry. The company, known as “DK”, has successfully carved out a remarkable position in the world of sports betting.

DraftKings Sportsbook offers a user-friendly app and desktop interface, along with a consistent flow of exciting promotions. These include odds boosts, chances to earn bonus bets, and other innovative surprises.

The platform offers prediction pools for individual games or an entire night of events, providing you with the opportunity to win big. You can take a chance on winning thousands by making a unique selection of picks.

Our assessment: The odds offered by DraftKings are satisfactory when compared to other top competitors in the industry. Additionally, DraftKings is known for being proactive in posting markets for newly approved sports by the Michigan Gaming Control Board. The range of live In-Game options available on their app is extensive, and the app performs efficiently to ensure a seamless experience for users.

Caesars Sportsbook

Caesars Sportsbook, despite being one of the newer betting brands to arrive in Michigan, has successfully positioned itself as one of the top leaders in the state.

Michigan sports bettors have consistently enjoyed an exceptional user experience at the converted William Hill Sportsbook. Caesars offers enticing promotions on a regular basis, accompanied by numerous opportunities for bet credits. Moreover, the book consistently provides the most favorable odds for players. Additionally, the extensive list of ongoing odds boosts is definitely worth checking out regularly.

In terms of added features or groundbreaking markets, there haven’t been many extras offered by Caesars. However, for those looking to place bets on games with favorable odds, it is an excellent sports betting product. This reason alone is compelling enough for most bettors to give it a shot.

BetMGM Sportsbook

Michigan’s leader in online casinos, the self-proclaimed King of Sportsbooks, also shines in the sports betting sector.

BetMGM Sportsbook has successfully leveraged its brand recognition in Michigan to offer an exceptional sports betting experience. Prioritizing their expansion into the Michigan market, BetMGM has effectively met the expectations as the leading sportsbook.

In our opinion, this sportsbook is excellent as it offers all the necessary features: a wide range of markets, fair odds, live betting, and easy-to-understand promotions. The recent app update has greatly improved its usability, allowing users to easily navigate and place bets that align with their betting history without much effort.

BetRivers Sportsbook

Rush Street Interactive, a company established by Chicago billionaire Neil Bluhm, has elevated BetRivers Sportsbook to new levels.

Manistee’s Little River Casino was the perfect Michigan partner for the BetRivers brand, given its recognition in Midwest gaming circles.

BetRivers is an accessible platform for casual gamblers, thanks to its exceptional promotions, appealing interface, diverse range of boosts and bets, and a 1x playthrough for sportsbook and online casino bonus money, a feature we hope becomes the norm in the industry.

Initially, Android users had the advantage of accessing the app earlier, but now Apple users have the opportunity to join in as well.

Our conclusion: With the launch of the iOS app, it is difficult to find any significant grievances.

FanDuel SportsbookFanDuel Sportsbook

Come and grab your sizzling hot, just-out-of-the-oven parlays!

FanDuel Sportsbook’s inclination towards multi-bet parlays is well-known. The majority of promotional offers provided by the leading Michigan sports betting platform are centered around this betting method.

That’s beneficial for the house, considering parlays typically do not yield favorable results. However, it can be enjoyable to witness them materialize. FanDuel pioneered the concept of the Same-Game Parlay, which has been replicated by other operators. Imitation is indeed a sincere form of admiration, isn’t it?

Our assessment: FanDuel Sportsbook in Michigan offers enjoyable branded boosts in collaboration with media partners, as well as constantly updated live betting odds. They were among the pioneers of the cash-out feature, allowing players to receive a partial-profit payment on favorable bets before they conclude. This innovative app brings a plethora of exciting features to the state of Michigan.

PointsBet Sportsbook

Before the launch of Michigan sports betting, PointsBet invested significant time and financial resources in promoting its brand to potential customers.

By consistently signing former Detroit athletes like Richard Hamilton, partnering with local teams, and even establishing its own sports bar at Little Caesars Arena, the Australian sportsbook firmly demonstrates its dedication towards Michigan bettors.

PointsBetting continues to stand out as a remarkable and distinct characteristic, enabling players to create thrilling personalized bets to potentially score big when their team surpasses a spread or prop bet by a significant margin. Additionally, the Karma Kommittee offers refunds for some of the most devastating “bad beats,” introducing an innovative element that could provide a delightful surprise following a challenging loss.

In our assessment, the betting experience is enhanced by excellent odds and promotions. Additionally, the app’s distinctive features set it apart in a highly competitive market. It is clear that this innovative company has more exciting surprises in store for the future.

In-Game Wagering and Live Betting

In-game betting, also known as “in-play” wagers, is the rapidly expanding sector of sports betting in the United States. These bets are placed on a game after it has already begun, relying on precise and up-to-date information that is solely accessible to legally regulated sports betting providers. Conversely, illegal offshore sports betting platforms are unable to provide any viable alternatives to the legal in-game betting opportunities offered by regulated sites. Therefore, if you are currently engaging in betting activities on an offshore site, transitioning to regulated Michigan online sports betting is highly recommended, particularly due to the advantages it presents for in-game wagering.

Live betting offers a higher level of fan engagement compared to traditional sports betting. It allows bettors to place wagers on various specific events, such as the number of 3-pointers made in the first quarter of a basketball game, the next touchdown scorer, the possibility of a run being scored in the current inning of a baseball match, or even predicting the winner of the next point in a tennis match.

In-game betting options include popular choices like point spreads, game totals, and moneylines. Additionally, live betting offers a variety of specific markets to choose from. For instance, in MLB baseball, you can bet on the outcome of the next at-bat. In golf, you can place bets on head-to-head matchups for each hole in a round. In a Detroit Lions game, you can predict who will score a certain number of points first. These options, along with many others, provide sport-specific outcomes with odds that fluctuate as the game progresses.

Currently, the Michigan Gaming Control Board prohibits player prop bets for college sports, but team-based props are permitted.

What Types of Sports Bets Can I Make in Michigan?

In addition to live betting options, Michigan sportsbooks provide a wide range of bet types. To learn more about each specific betting option, simply click on the links provided to access detailed information on these wagers.

  • A straight bet is a type of wager where you place a bet on a single game with options such as point spread, total, or moneyline. In order to win, you need to bet on the team that either wins the game or covers the spread. Alternatively, you can also win if both teams cover the correct side of a point total.
  • A single-game bet focuses on a solitary event or game, allowing wagers on either the point spread or the victor. However, it is limited to a single competition.
  • Moneyline bets, the most well-known and straightforward type of bet, involve predicting the winning team. To illustrate, let’s consider an NFL game with moneyline odds of -150 for the Chicago Bears and +120 for the Detroit Lions. The negative symbol signifies that you need to wager that specific amount to secure a $100 profit. Therefore, in this scenario, you must bet $150 to earn $100. Conversely, the positive symbol indicates the potential winnings from a $100 bet. In this particular game, a $100 wager would result in a $120 profit.
  • Teaser bets provide the opportunity for bettors to combine bets on multiple games with improved odds. By adjusting point spreads or game totals in their favor for each game, bettors increase their chances of winning. Operators make corresponding adjustments to the odds to reflect this advantage.
  • Parlays involve combining multiple wagers, where the bettor can only be declared a winner if all predictions are accurate. Even if the first four games in a five-game parlay are correctly predicted, losing the final leg results in a complete loss of the entire bet. Despite the potential for significant winnings with minimal wagers, parlay bets are highly favored. However, the reason behind the substantial payouts is the low likelihood of winning.
  • Same-game parlays, which are also referred to as single game parlays or one game parlays, offer bettors the opportunity to construct a parlay bet exclusively within a single game.
  • Over-under bets, also referred to as totals, involve predicting the cumulative score of both teams. A line is provided by the sportsbook, indicating the expected total score, and the bettor can choose to wager on either side of that amount.
  • Proposition bets, also known as prop bets, give bettors the opportunity to place wagers on specific occurrences during a game. These occurrences can be related to the game as a whole or to the performance of an individual player, particularly in the case of NFL game props. Online gambling platforms often offer prop bets that are tailored to attract the interests of their customers. For instance, a prop bet could involve predicting whether a certain player will hit a home run, score a goal, or achieve a specific point total in a professional basketball game. It is important to note that the MGCB (Michigan Gaming Control Board) prohibits individual prop bets on college athletics, but allows prop bets on college team performances.

  • Most operators accept debit and credit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.

  • Most online sports betting apps in Michigan accept common bank transfers like e-checks (ACH transfers), wire transfers, and bill payments.

  • Most Michigan online sports betting sites accept cash as a payment method. Transactions can be made either at the cage or cashier of affiliated casinos and sportsbooks, or through third-party providers like PayNearMe.

You can usually withdraw funds from Michigan sports betting apps using the same method you used to deposit the money. However, not all deposit methods are eligible for withdrawing winnings. In such cases, the app will offer an alternative solution, which may involve receiving a check by mail.

However, it is important to note that withdrawals can often be made instantly in many situations. Legal and regulated gaming in the US is characterized by secure and uncomplicated financial transactions.

These programs hold significant value for high-stakes and regular players, offering a range of perks such as complimentary parking, accommodations, and meals. By participating in an online store, points can be accumulated and subsequently redeemed for various advantages such as merchandise, additional bonuses, or betting credits. This holds true regardless of whether you are a casual bettor placing small bets, as these points can gradually amass to a significant amount of money. How Michigan Sports Betting Came To Be

Since the 1930s, Michigan has fostered a strong culture surrounding casinos and sports betting, with the introduction of regulated pari-mutuel horse racing. Given this historical background, it comes as no surprise that Michigan is now at the forefront of online sports betting in the United States. Let’s delve into some pivotal events that have shaped the current landscape.

In January 1984, Fred Dakota, a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian tribe, questions the state’s authority to govern tribal gaming. Taking matters into his own hands, Dakota establishes The Pines, a small casino featuring a single blackjack table, in his modest two-car garage located in Zeba. Little did he know that this bold move would mark the beginning of a flourishing tribal casino industry across the state.

In November 1996, Proposal E was approved by Michigan voters, granting permission for the establishment of three licensed commercial casinos in Detroit.

On July 29, 1999, the first-ever temporary casino in Michigan’s largest city, MGM Grand Detroit, was inaugurated.

On May 14, 2018, the US Supreme Court made a significant decision in Murphy v. NCAA, invalidating the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, a federal law that had prohibited states from legalizing sports gambling for the past 26 years.

In December 2018, a bill legalizing online gambling is passed by the Michigan Legislature. Unfortunately, the bill is vetoed by outgoing Gov. Rick Snyder.

In December 2019, a series of bills were approved by Michigan lawmakers, effectively legalizing various forms of online gambling, sports betting, fantasy sports, and online poker.

On December 20, 2019, the bills were signed into law by Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, allowing current tribal and commercial casinos the opportunity to seek licenses for sports betting and online gambling.

On March 11, 2020, Greektown Casino-Hotel and MGM Grand Detroit became the first establishments in Detroit to introduce retail sportsbooks. The following day, MotorCity Casino joined the trend by launching the FanDuel Sportsbook.

On June 22, 2020, the inauguration of Dacey’s Sportsbook took place at FireKeepers Casino in Battle Creek, marking the state’s pioneering tribal casino sportsbook. This venture is a collaborative effort between FireKeepers Casino and Scientific Games. Furthermore, several other tribal casinos have already incorporated or plan to incorporate sportsbooks and collections of sports betting kiosks across the state.

On January 22, 2021, the launch of expanded online gambling options in Michigan included ten online sportsbooks and eight online casinos. This significant event for sports betting and casino gaming took place on a Friday, just before the NFL conference championship games of that year.
