The primary focus of the casino industry is to attract a large number of customers. In line with this objective, the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community has devised a strategy to accomplish this by expanding the Ojibwa Casino.

Marquette casino additions include a fresh conference space, event center, and an array of slot machines. With a collective investment of nearly $50 million from the community, both Marquette and Baraga are anticipating a lucrative return on their investments.

Ojibwa Casino expansion set to open in December

The capacity of the new convention center is 400 individuals, while the event center can accommodate up to 1,200 people. Additionally, the casino will introduce an extra 500 slots.

The Keweenaw Bay Community is hopeful that the combined impact of these components will surpass the individual contributions. These initiatives follow the recent renovations at Baraga.

In the beginning of the year, the Ojibwa Casino in Baraga underwent extensive renovations to enhance its gaming floor, hotel, and restaurant areas. In addition to these improvements, the community invested nearly $7 million to install a state-of-the-art ventilation system.

Despite the significantly higher cost of the upgrades in Marquette, the goal remains unchanged – to expand the customer base.

Keweenaw Community spends money to make money

Larry Denomie, the general manager of Marquette’s Ojibwa Casino, carefully outlined a magnificent plan, and the results are already becoming evident.

Denomie mentioned that they are receiving frequent calls from sizeable groups who are interested in renting the center for their events. They are currently in the process of finalizing internal plans and will soon provide contact information for those who wish to host their events and need a designated point of contact.

The prompt could be rewritten as follows: <br>The community’s investment in local infrastructure has already begun to benefit the greater community, although if the convention and event spaces sell well, it would contribute to a quick return on investment.

New roads, tower and water system already completed

Earlier this year, a sum of $62,000 was invested by the Keweenaw Community to construct a new water tower. This tower currently serves as a water source for the Chocolay Township’s casino and the neighboring residents. Notably, the Ojibwa Casinos generously donated $1.31 million to various communities, including the Chocolay Township and the state of Michigan.

The new tower not only supplies water for residential purposes in the township but also serves as a valuable resource for the fire department. Additionally, local technology companies have installed antennas on the water tower to generate additional revenue.

The Keweenaw Community has recently invested in the infrastructure surrounding the casino by funding various road enhancements. These improvements include new curbs, gutters, pavement markings, rumble strips, signs, and turning lanes.

Even though the total amount is a substantial investment for the Keweenaw Community, it can be seen as the casinos taking a loan based on their future earnings. The Baraga and Marquette facilities will have the credited amount deducted from their future gaming revenue payments for the next ten years.

Viewing the improvements at the casinos as investments is justified due to the borrowing against future revenue. The expenses incurred can be repaid with the anticipated increase in revenue they will generate.

The Ojibwa Casinos are constantly seeking growth and providing fresh incentives for visitors, refusing to settle for stagnation in the casino industry.
