PokerStars MI’s inaugural Michigan Championship of Online Poker (MICOOP) has reached its halfway mark. The overwhelming response from Michigan’s poker players during the first week of the tournament series indicates their eagerness to participate on the state’s first online poker site.

The series has proven to be immensely popular thus far, attracting consistently large audiences and offering substantial prize pools in every event.

In a span of 35 tournaments, players have accumulated a total prize money exceeding $1.147 million. To put it differently, the combined prize pools have already surpassed the guaranteed $1 million initially set for the 60-event MICOOP schedule.

Michigan > Pennsylvania: MICOOP crushing pace for first PACOOP

The total guarantees for MICOOP events have seen an increase since the original schedule was planned. This is due to PokerStars MI raising the guarantees for all Saturday and Sunday events over the weekend (more details below).

Up to this point, a grand total of over 15,800 entries have been recorded across the 35 events, including re-entries. Additionally, there have been almost 1,600 rebuys and add-ons in two rebuy events.

Yesterday, the $250 buy-in Sunday Special (Event #31) reached a milestone as it boasted the largest prize pool ever seen. With a total of 461 entries, the event generated over $107,000 in winnings. This surpassed the previous record of just over $81,000 set by the $100 Kickoff (Event #1).

The inaugural MICOOP is set to outshine the initial Pennsylvania Championship on Online Poker, which took place in late 2019 shortly after the introduction of PokerStars PA, by delivering exceptional performance.

In the inaugural PACOOP, players triumphed in a remarkable 50-event series, collecting a total of slightly over $1.55 million in winnings.

Michigan players come out in droves for ‘Double Up Weekend’

PokerStars Michigan, after effortlessly surpassing all guarantees in the first 22 events (including the Friday events), made a recent announcement last week. They revealed their decision to double the guarantees in all 10 events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

How did the last-minute “Double Up Weekend” turn out? It went quite well, all things considered.

Out of the 10 weekend events, eight managed to draw in sufficient participants, resulting in prize pools that exceeded the recently doubled guarantee. Notably, Event #26 surpassed the doubled guarantee ($6,000) by doubling its prize pool, ultimately amounting to $12,649.

There were overlays in two of the Sunday night events. The $50 PLO (Event #33) had a slight overlay of approximately $1,300, whereas the $75 NLHE Sunday Supersonic (Event #35) had a slightly larger overlay of over $5,200.

Although there is a possibility, PokerStars has not made any adjustments to the remaining guarantees on the tournament schedule. The upcoming Main Event on Sunday is a two-day event with a buy-in of $300 and currently guarantees a prize pool of $125,000.

Let’s take a glance at the participation and prize money for all MICOOP events up to now.
