Although summer has just begun, the PokerStars Michigan Summer Stacks Festival is already past its midway mark. With 55 out of 100 tournaments completed, the series has amassed a total guaranteed prize pool of $1 million.
Despite a few overlays, the turnouts have been satisfactory enough to maintain a similar pace, with PokerStars MI players accumulating over $545,000 in winnings thus far.
Despite almost 15,000 entries, overlays in nearly half the events
Over the initial nine days of the series, more than 14,800 entries have been attracted by the 55 tournaments.
Two Sunday Special events, each with a $100 buy-in, have taken place so far, both guaranteeing a prize pool of $60,000. The first tournament, held on June 13, had 569 participants, while the second one on June 20 saw 567 players. Consequently, both events experienced overlays exceeding $7,500.
Up until now, the series has experienced its biggest overlays. Nearly half of the events, 27 out of 55 tournaments, have had overlays. The total amount of overlays has exceeded $45,000, with an average of around $1,680 per occurrence. Interestingly, all eight tournaments in yesterday’s PokerStars MI Summer Stacks also had overlays.
Tournament organizers do not always view overlays negatively. In fact, as long as the overlay is not excessive, the tournament can still generate profits through the collection of tournament fees. For instance, in one-third of the tournaments with overlays (nine out of 27), PokerStars MI collected more in fees than what was required to meet the guaranteed prize pool.
PokerStars MI and PA outpacing NJ in simultaneous Summer Stacks
During the current month, PokerStars is hosting a Summer Stacks Festival series consisting of 100 events simultaneously on its other two US sites.
The schedule at PokerStars PA closely mirrors the one in Michigan, with guarantees amounting to slightly over $1 million. In contrast, PokerStars NJ offers lower guarantees, totaling $500,000 throughout the series.
To date, Pennsylvania and New Jersey have each successfully hosted 55 Summer Stacks events.
PokerStars PA has witnessed a remarkable turnout, with a total of over 18,900 participants. The collective winnings currently stand at an impressive $626,000, establishing Pennsylvania as the leading state among the three sites.
Summer Stacks events at PokerStars NJ have garnered a total of approximately 8,600 entries, resulting in prize money worth slightly over $301,000 being distributed.
Freerolls, $100K guaranteed Main Event highlight final week

Furthermore, there are continuous freerolls available for players to have the opportunity of winning their entry into various Summer Stacks events, such as the highly anticipated Main Event.
Players who are eliminated from any Summer Stacks Festival event before reaching the prize pool are eligible for the Second Chance Freerolls. These freerolls take place daily and offer a total of $10,000 worth of Summer Stacks tournament tickets as prizes.
The Main Event Depositor Freeroll is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, four hours prior to the commencement of the Main Event.
