Later this month, PokerStars MI will once again host the Michigan Classic, marking its second occurrence within a year.
On Sunday, October 24th, at 5 p.m., the two-day no-limit hold’em tournament will commence. Participants can enter with a $300 buy-in, and the prize pool for this event is guaranteed to be $250,000.
Guarantee halved from inaugural PokerStars Michigan Classic
In early April, the inaugural Michigan Classic took place, adopting a comparable structure with an enhanced prize pool of $500,000, doubling the previous amount.
The late registration period for the tournament will extend for the initial five hours, allowing players to re-enter up to five times. Participants will begin with 100,000 chips (equivalent to 200 big blinds) and each level will have a duration of 15 minutes. Day 1 will span over 7.5 hours, after which the remaining players will reconvene for Day 2 on Monday, October 25 at 6 p.m. The competition will continue until a champion is determined.
In April, the event received a total of 1,551 entries, falling short of the half-million dollar guarantee by 235 entries. As a result, PokerStars MI had to contribute an additional $65,000 to the prize pool to bridge the gap. However, with the guarantee for the second Michigan Classic reduced to $250,000, it appears unlikely that there will be an overlay this time.
The recently concluded Michigan Championship of Online Poker last month further adds to the positive outlook for PokerStars in the Michigan online poker market. With over 18,000 total entries and a prize pool of almost $1.79 million, the 68-MICOOP tournament series was a huge success.
Satellites, Spin & Go’s, and Depositor Freeroll offer inexpensive paths to Classic seats
PokerStars MI will be hosting multiple Michigan Classic satellites until Oct. 24, as per their usual practice. Starting at just $15, these satellites offer players an affordable opportunity to secure a spot in the $300 event.
PokerStars MI will host $3 Spin & Go tournaments, granting seats into the Michigan Classic, leading up to the game day.
Furthermore, participants have the opportunity to secure a spot in the tournament without any cost by participating in the Michigan Classic Depositor Freeroll, which is set to take place on October 24th at 2 p.m.
To be eligible for the Depositor Freeroll and a chance to win a seat in the Michigan Classic, PokerStars MI players must deposit a minimum of $30 using the code “CLASSIC21” before 1:59 p.m. on Oct. 24. The top 50 participants in the tournament will secure seats in the Michigan Classic, with a total value of $15,000 in Main Event tickets at stake.
Michigan event to coincide with similar tournaments at other PokerStars US sites
The Michigan Classic has been announced alongside PokerStars promoting similar tournaments at its other US sites, PokerStars Pennsylvania and PokerStars New Jersey. All three events are scheduled to occur on October 24-25.
Pennsyl-MANIA, a creatively named two-day tournament with a $300 buy-in, will be hosted by PokerStars in Pennsylvania. This event has been successfully run multiple times on PokerStars PA since its launch in November 2019. Notably, the Pennsylvania edition of the tournament will feature an increased guarantee of $350,000.
The upcoming New Jersey Classic, hosted by PokerStars, is expected to be a two-day event with a $300 buy-in. Participants can anticipate a guaranteed prize pool of $100,000.
In recent months, PokerStars has adopted a practice in which all three of its US sites simultaneously hold events. A recent example of this is when each site hosted its own COOP (Championship of Online Poker) series during the same dates in September.
Currently, PokerStars’ US sites are operating independently without any player pool sharing. Nevertheless, this could potentially change in the future if PokerStars and the states it operates in establish a multi-state agreement. Essentially, PokerStars’ current approach of hosting similar events simultaneously on each site could serve as a test for this potential future scenario.
