New COVID cases down significantly
The recent decline in new COVID-19 cases over the past few weeks is the reason behind the change in mask policy.
On November 23rd, when the mask policy was implemented, a record-breaking 8,502 new cases were reported.
According to the most recent update by the Michigan Health Department, there was an average of 1,793 new cases reported between Saturday and Monday (Feb. 12-14).
The current number of new cases is significantly lower compared to the highest point of 20,346 new cases recorded on January 6th this year.
For the first time since late September, Michigan has witnessed a 7-day average of new cases below 3,000.
The current 7-day average of new cases in Wayne County stands at 262, which reflects a significant decrease compared to the previous week’s count of 714.
