Golden Nugget Casino, a relatively unnoticed player in the Michigan online gambling scene, is determined to find a breakthrough.

It would be wise for them to take cues from their latest collaborator.

On Tuesday, Golden Nugget Online Gaming (GNOG) revealed its collaboration with Detroit City FC, a grassroots professional soccer club that boasts a significant fanbase resembling that of a major league team.

GoldenNuggetCasino.com has become the sole online gaming partner for the Detroit professional soccer team, thanks to the recent deal. Moreover, GNOG has been appointed as the official sponsor for the men’s and women’s teams’ training jerseys. In addition to this, they will organize fan nights in the stadium, engage with the local community, collaborate digitally, offer VIP experiences, and more.

The big brands have recently partnered with all four major Detroit sports teams. However, “Le Rouge,” a team in the National Independent Soccer Association, stands out with its passionate fanbase and inspiring underdog story, making it a great example for GN to follow.

Golden Nugget hoping to come on strong in MI

Golden Nugget is currently making strides to catch up in Michigan after the launch of online sports betting and internet gaming on Jan. 22.

In the month of May, the GN’s online casino in Michigan generated a revenue of $13.8 million, securing an 8th position out of the 13 internet gaming operators in the state. This accounts for a 3.5% market share.

Out of the 12 sports betting operators in Michigan, Golden Nugget Sportsbook holds the 11th position, with a market share of 0.3% and a total sports betting handle of $3.2 million.

After making its debut in the stock market last year, GNOG CEO Tilman Fertitta affirmed the company’s commitment to prioritize online casino operations, even with the inclusion of sports betting.

GN gaining name recognition in Michigan

GNOG is gradually gaining recognition in the collective consciousness through recent advertising expenditures, even though sports betting giants such as BetMGM, DraftKings, and FanDuel initially dominated the television ad space in MI.

Fertitta, in his role as a pitchman, frequently appears on television screens in Michigan to endorse online casinos instead of the company’s sportsbook.

The success of GN in New Jersey can be attributed partly to the introduction of live dealer games, a trend that is expected to be replicated in Michigan later this year.

It is worth mentioning that the DCFC deal announcement did not include any mention of a sportsbook component. Currently, the club has not formed a partnership with any sports betting brand.

DCFC has large following, title game upcoming

DCFC made its debut in 2012 and officially turned professional in the previous year. Unfortunately, their inaugural NISA season was completely wiped out due to the pandemic. Additionally, last year proved to be a false start for their newly formed women’s team.

Last weekend, the men of Detroit City FC regained their momentum and emerged victorious in the NISA regular season, marking a successful summer for the team.

On Saturday night, the NISA Championship will be held at “Le Rouge,” where they will face the winner of the semifinal match between Chattanooga (Tenn.) FC and the Los Angeles Force, which will take place on Wednesday.

The match and Saturday’s game will take place at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck, which is the home of DCFC. Despite being classified as the fourth tier of American professional soccer, DCFC boasts a dedicated fan base, with an average attendance of almost 6,000 spectators per game in 2019.

DCFC matches are televised on TV20 in the Detroit area, as well as on CW channels across the state.

“In a statement, Samir Banerjee, GNOG director of marketing, expressed our immense excitement in announcing our new partnership with the league champions of the National Independent Soccer Association, DCFC. Our core belief at GNOG is prioritizing our players above all else. By adopting a localized strategy in emerging markets, we aim to provide a more personalized GNOG experience. Our goal is to integrate seamlessly into the communities we join, and this partnership enables us to engage with a passionate fan base of forty thousand supporters, both local and distant. As we strive for continuous growth, we eagerly anticipate fostering a long-lasting partnership with DCFC.”

The enthusiastic Northern Guard supporters have played a crucial role in driving fan engagement for “Le Rouge.” Additionally, the club made a significant move last year by offering ownership stakes to the public, with shares starting at $125.

Can you bet on Detroit City FC soccer matches?

You still cannot do it, but not yet.

Betting on American professional leagues like Major League Soccer and United Soccer League has been granted approval by the Michigan Gaming Control Board.

No Michigan sports betting operator at a lower level in the U.S. soccer hierarchy has shown interest in requesting NISA betting so far.

With DCFC now appearing on the betting radar, it is anticipated that match wagers might be introduced in the near future.

T.J. Winfrey, DCFC chief of partnerships, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with Golden Nugget Online Gaming, stating, “We are thrilled to embark on this partnership with GNOG. Their commitment to the community and their competitive brand aligns perfectly with our vision. We aim to contribute to the growth of GNOG in Michigan and beyond. Being a club that originated from the Detroit community, we are excited to have GNOG as our partner in engaging and involving our community.”
