There is undoubtedly a surge of excitement among football fans in Michigan as their team holds the coveted No. 1 draft pick and boasts a Super Bowl-winning coach.

Naturally, we’re not referring to the Detroit Lions but rather the Michigan Panthers in the USFL revival, who possess both of those qualities.

Sports bettors in Michigan are likely excited about the upcoming league commencing in April, but unfortunately, they are unable to fully engage in it at the moment.

USFL taking steps toward legal betting in Michigan

At present, the Michigan Gaming Control Board solely grants approval for sports betting within Michigan to the National Football League and Canadian Football League.

According to Mary Kay Bean, Communications Specialist at MGCB, the confirmation has been made that the MGCB has received a request to include the USFL as a new league in its sports wagering catalog. The request is currently under review, and there is no specific date set for the completion of the review process.

On February 15th, the USFL was included in the “Pending Approval” section of the MGCB Sports Wagering Catalog.

The league has received approval for wagering from fifteen additional states.

Sportradar’s recent partnership with the USFL marks a significant move towards gaining approval for sports betting in the league.

Sportradar has been named the official sports data provider and integrity partner of the USFL through a multi-year agreement.

Edward Hartman, USFL Executive Vice President of Business Operations, expressed his excitement about the USFL’s new data and integrity partnership with Sportradar. In a press release, Hartman emphasized the significance of this alliance, especially considering that over 60% of American adults reside in states where sports wagering is legal. The USFL recognizes the importance of collaborating with the industry leader in integrity solutions, and Sportradar is widely regarded as the benchmark for all sports information businesses.

Sportradar has entered into an agreement to create innovative data collection and delivery systems for the league and its affiliated enterprises, encompassing media and gaming. Additionally, Sportradar has the ability to supply data to betting operators who advertise during USFL telecasts.

The task of conducting bet monitoring and reporting will be undertaken by Sportradar, utilizing its Universal Fraud Detection System.

What the USFL will look like in 2022

After a hiatus of 36 years, the USFL is set to make a comeback on April 16, 2022.

The eight teams in the league have been divided into two divisions.

Division South

  • Stallions of Birmingham
  • Houston Gamblers can be rephrased as “The Gamblers of Houston” or “The Houston-based Gamblers.”
  • The Breakers of New Orleans
  • The Bandits of Tampa Bay

The division situated to the north.

  • The Michigan Panthers
  • The Generals of New Jersey
  • The Philadelphia Stars
  • The Pittsburgh Maulers

There will be a total of eight teams, each with a roster of 38 active players and a practice squad consisting of seven players. The players will be entitled to receive a base compensation, along with the opportunity to earn victory bonuses.

In 2022, every team will have a 10-game schedule. This will consist of facing all division opponents twice and each non-division opponent once.

All games will be played at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Ala., and the season will continue until July 3.

Broadcast networks and streaming platforms such as FOX, FS1, NBC, USA, and Peacock will feature the airing of games.

Jeff Fisher leading Michigan Panthers

The Michigan Panthers aim to bring a level of success on the football field that hasn’t been familiar to the Detroit Lions fans.

Jeff Fisher was officially named the head coach and general manager of the franchise on January 27th. With a record of 173-165-1, Fisher had an impressive 22-year career as an NFL head coach. One of his standout moments was leading the Tennessee Titans to Super Bowl XXXIV, although they ultimately suffered a defeat against the St. Louis Rams.

The Panthers had an eventful Thursday, starting with the unveiling of their new uniforms. Shortly after, they received exciting news of winning the USFL Draft Lottery. This achievement grants them the coveted first overall pick in the upcoming 2022 USFL Draft, scheduled for February 22.

The former Michigan quarterback, Shea Patterson, was selected by them using it for drafting purposes.

Coaches who will be joining Fisher in the USFL include:

  • Larry Fedora is in New Orleans.
  • Birmingham: An Insight into Skip Holtz
  • Kirby Wilson resides in Pittsburgh.
  • New Jersey is where Mike Riley resides.
  • Tampa Bay: Todd Haley
  • Kevin Sumlin: The coach from Houston
  • Bart Andrus: The City of Brotherly Love
