Just in time for the holiday season, sports betting is making its way to Christmas.
On Monday, the gambling menu at the Upper Peninsula’s chain of five casinos was expanded to include sports betting.
Sports betting kiosks have been introduced at Kewadin Casinos’ various locations in Christmas, Hessel, Manistique, Sault Ste. Marie, and St. Ignace as part of their collaboration with WynnBET.
Shawn Carlson, vice president of marketing for Kewadin Casinos, predicts that as people gain more knowledge, their interest in betting will increase. He believes that newcomers to betting may face a learning curve initially.
Kewadin Casinos offer kiosk betting terminals
The Kewadin website states that the terminals are known as Kewadin Casinos Sportsbooks, proudly partnered with WynnBET. Wynn, a renowned entity in the gaming industry and the Las Vegas Strip, is expanding its online gambling presence in response to market advancements.
In March, the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, the casino operators, revealed their selection of GAN as their software partner for online gambling and sports betting activities.
Carlson expressed his satisfaction with the partnerships of GAN, a leading provider of sportsbook engines for major platforms worldwide. Additionally, he highlighted the collaboration with Wynn, a renowned powerhouse in the industry, further solidifying their strong network of partners.
As of now, there are a total of 19 casinos in the state offering sports betting. On March 11 of this year, the inaugural sports bets were accepted at MGM Grand Detroit and Greektown Casino, both located in downtown Detroit.
The addition of Kewadin’s terminals brings the total number of U.P. casinos with sports betting to six. Island Resort Casino in Harris, in partnership with BetAmerica, was the first to offer this service.
What sports can you wager on at Kewadin Casinos?
As per the Kewadin website, the betting options available at Kewadin will encompass a wide range of sports such as auto racing, baseball, basketball, boxing/MMA, football, golf, hockey, and soccer.
Here are the designated locations for the terminals:
- During the Christmas season, Frosty’s Pub ‘n’ Grub features a single sports betting kiosk.
- The kiosk in the bar area is located at the Hessel location.
- Team Spirit Bar in Manistique has a single sports betting terminal available.
- The three kiosks can be found at the Rapids Lounge and Superior Bar in Sault Ste. Marie.
- The Whitetail Sports Bar in St. Ignace offers two sports betting kiosks for customers to use.
Currently, sports betting is exclusively available at the kiosks in Kewadin Casinos. However, Carlson emphasized the importance of educating customers to promote future expansion. To facilitate this, the bars will have knowledgeable staff on hand to assist customers with any inquiries regarding sports betting.
In the future, Carlson envisions the possibility of local participants being able to place bets on the renowned International 500 Snowmobile Race in Sault Ste. Marie, a well-liked annual winter festival in the Upper Peninsula.
Carlson expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “It would be something we would absolutely love to do in the end.”
