Perhaps you weren’t informed, but the commencement of the 2022 College Football Season is just around the corner, with less than 100 days remaining.
The clock is ticking for the arrival of tailgating, marching bands, and the nation’s most fervent fan bases. Additionally, Michigan boasts a thriving sports betting community.
Michigan and Michigan State had successful 2021 seasons and are filled with optimism for the upcoming year of 2022.
What can we gather from the early college football lines and futures odds regarding the Spartans and Wolverines?
Michigan back to chasing Ohio State
After a gap of 17 years, the Michigan Wolverines secured their first Big Ten Championship in 2004. Under the guidance of Jim Harbaugh, the team achieved an impressive record of 12-2 overall and 8-1 in the Big Ten during the previous season.
For the upcoming year 2022, FanDuel Sportsbook MI has set the over/under for Michigan’s regular season wins at 9.5.
In most futures markets, Michigan is considered a significant underdog. The Wolverines have odds of +6000 to win the College Football Playoff, +800 to win the Big Ten Conference, and +600 to win the Big Ten East. On the other hand, Ohio State is the undeniable favorite in the conference with odds of -200.
Michigan has a relatively manageable schedule, featuring eight home games and only four away games. The most challenging matchups will be the away game against Iowa on October 1st and the season-ending clash with Ohio State on November 26th.
According to FanDuel, Michigan is favored by 4 points when playing at Iowa. However, when facing Ohio State, the Wolverines are considered underdogs by 13.5 points. Last year, U-M managed to break their 8-game losing streak against OSU with a 42-27 victory.
On October 29, another highly anticipated game will take place as the Wolverines welcome Michigan State to their home turf. Despite the Spartans winning 10 out of the last 14 matchups between the two teams, Michigan is being favored by 8 points in the opening odds.

MSU having to prove itself again
Coach Mel Tucker led Michigan State to a successful second season, with the team making a strong push towards the Big Ten Championship. However, despite their impressive efforts, they fell just short by a single game.
The Spartans finished their season with a solid 11-2 record, including a victory in the Peach Bowl. In the Big Ten, they achieved an impressive 7-2 record. Notably, MSU secured a memorable conference win against Michigan, defeating them 37-33 in an exhilarating game held at home.
FanDuel has set the over/under for MSU’s regular season wins at 7.5 this season.
The Spartans have an exciting lineup of games, with a notable matchup on Sept. 17 against Washington where they are starting as a 3-point favorite. Additionally, Michigan State faces tough challenges at home on Oct. 8 against Ohio State and Oct. 15 against Wisconsin, before their visit to Michigan on Oct. 29.
On November 26th, the season finale will feature another highly anticipated match as the Spartans make their way to Penn State.
FanDuel seems unenthusiastic about MSU’s prospects for a championship this season. The odds for the Spartans to win the College Football Playoff are +15000, +2500 to win the Big Ten, and +1200 to win the Big Ten East.
