During the opening week of World Series of Poker Michigan, online poker players had a high chance of finding themselves virtually seated next to the renowned Joe Cada.

Since the platform’s launch on Monday morning, the 2009 WSOP Main Event winner from Michigan has been playing every day, he said.

However, is he recognized by other players?

Cada expressed to Playinmichigan that the situation is quite varied. He estimated that only about one or two players out of every ten may recognize him. During a recent podcast, he mentioned that many times when he sits down at a poker table, not everyone is aware of his identity. Despite winning the Main Event 13 years ago, not everyone was following poker at that time, so some individuals are familiar with him while others remain oblivious.

Joe Cada helping to promote WSOP Michigan

Cada’s excitement for the launch of WSOP MI goes beyond his recent signing as a local poker ambassador for the company.

Cada expressed his long-standing love for the WSOP, which began when he first started playing poker. Nowadays, he primarily plays online and doesn’t engage in much in-person gameplay or extensive travel, except during the World Series. Although he eagerly awaits the connection between states, he remains enthusiastic about the future and its potential.

He mentioned that his partnership with WSOP is quite extensive, involving various promotional activities. One major aspect of this collaboration is participating in games on the platform and organizing tournaments. As part of this, WSOP Michigan is providing a $1,000 bonus to any resident of Michigan who can outperform Cada in the 2022 WSOP Main Event.

Cada expressed, “My intention has been to simply enjoy playing with everyone. In addition to participating in cash games and smaller tournaments, I also played a freeroll on the first day. It brings me great joy to engage in the smaller stakes tournaments and interact with fellow players.”

Additionally, he intends to engage in streaming activities on the platform Twitch.

Cada finds it particularly thrilling that WSOP MI is now live, as it enables online poker players from Michigan to participate in satellites for the Main Event.

Players across Michigan have predominantly expressed favorable opinions about the debut of WSOP Michigan.

Cada a four-time WSOP bracelet winner

At 21 years and 11 months old, Cada, a native of Shelby Township, made history as the youngest player to ever win the 2009 WSOP Main Event, earning an impressive $8.5 million.

In addition to reaching the final table of the Main Event once more in 2018, he has achieved victory in four WSOP bracelets. These notable accomplishments include triumphs in the $10K No Limit Texas Hold’Em Six Handed tournament in 2014, the $3K No Limit Hold’Em Shootout in 2018, and the $1.5K The Closer No Limit Hold’Em tournament, which also occurred in 2018.

According to his WSOP player profile, he has accumulated over $13.6 million in earnings throughout his career.

Despite his widespread success as a professional poker player, Cada has always remained connected to his Michigan roots, particularly when it concerns the local sports teams.

Cada expressed his passion for sports, stating, “I’m an avid supporter of all the Michigan teams. I proudly embrace being a loyal fan.”
