On Sunday, Matt Kowalis’ extensive analysis of the NBA odds finally yielded significant results.
This past weekend, the co-founder of Detroit Sports Bettors and co-host of the FanDuel Sportsbook Show achieved the most significant betting victory of his lifetime.
Kowalis successfully wagered $50 on FanDuel, combining three distinct Same Game Parlays comprising a total of 16 NBA player props. Remarkably, all of his predictions turned out to be correct, resulting in odds of +58226. As a result, Kowalis received an impressive payout of $29,163.10.
Kowalis experienced an unforgettable NBA day, which unexpectedly replaced the usual NFL Sunday.
What was Kowalis’ $29K parlay?
On Sunday’s NBA action, Kowalis consolidated three separate SGP’s into a single colossal parlay bet.
After a successful parlay hit on Saturday, Kowalis decided to allocate a portion of his winnings towards his “lotto ticket” bet.
“I successfully won $1,600 with a Same Game Parlay on Saturday. Whenever I achieve such a victory, my strategy is to set aside $50 from the winnings and create a ‘lotto ticket.’ This entails composing a substantial bet that has the potential to generate remarkable earnings,” explained Kowalis. “Naturally, the likelihood of winning is low, but I am also making careful considerations and utilizing relevant data to inform my selections.”
Let’s take a glance at the total of 16 successful bets.

How Kowalis came up with his parlay
For almost ten years, Kowalis has shown unwavering commitment to his NBA analysis.
Kowalis had achieved significant success as a Daily Fantasy Sports player in Michigan before the legalization of sports betting.
Heading into Sunday, Kowalis remained committed to his tried-and-true strategy of identifying favorable matchups.
He had a strong intuition that Anthony Davis would dominate during the Pistons/Lakers game.
Kowalis explained that his initial action was to examine the matchups and specifically noticed Anthony Davis playing against the Pistons. He acknowledged that Davis has consistently performed well against Detroit. Understanding the importance of having a complementary player, Kowalis decided to heavily invest in assists for LeBron and strategize for a lower scoring output than his usual performance.
In addition, he had a strong belief that Joel Embiid’s matchup with the Charlotte Hornets frontcourt would be advantageous due to the superior athleticism possessed by the Philly center.
Kowalis expressed his preference for Joel Embiid as a favorable matchup against the Hornets due to their slower play in the paint. He placed a significant bet on Embiid’s point total at 35.5, which had odds of around +300. Additionally, Kowalis placed a substantial wager on Embiid’s rebound count. Recognizing that Embiid’s strong performance would require a facilitator, Kowalis also placed a large bet on James Harden’s assists.
A little luck and a thrilling finish to win $29K parlay
His parlay consisted of three games, all of which commenced at 6 p.m. ET on Sunday.
Kowalis observed that the statistics were leaning towards his advantage by 8 p.m.
In the Knicks vs. Kings game, there was a lucky turn of events. Julius Randle had already surpassed his predicted points of 17.5 and assists of 2.5, and now he was on track for a successful performance in rebounds. However, Kowalis had predicted that Randle would fall short of 11.5 rebounds.
Nevertheless, Randle’s night concluded with 27 points, 3 assists, and 8 rebounds after he was ejected with 3:35 left in the third quarter.
As the three games approached their final quarter, Kowalis simply required a single assist from LeBron James, another assist from Jaden Ivey, and four points from Terry Rozier.
Rozier and Ivey efficiently dealt with their tasks, yet the LeBron assist failed to materialize.
As the clock ticked down to under 30 seconds, the Lakers maintained a slim 119-117 lead over the Pistons. With the game hanging in the balance, all eyes were on James as he held the ball, determined to secure victory for Los Angeles and bring an end to Detroit’s hopes.
After making his way towards the paint, LeBron would encounter a double team, prompting him to pass the ball out to Austin Reaves positioned beyond the three-point line.
Kowalis eagerly watched as his $29K hinged on the outcome of Oklahoma second-year guard Austin Reaves’ 3-point attempt, despite Reaves being a 33% 3-point shooter.
Kowalis instantly became $29,000 wealthier when Reaves successfully made the shot.
Kowalis recounted, “As I chatted with my friend in the living room, I abruptly bolted out the front door. He had a slight head start, evident by his exclamation of ‘OH MY GOD.’ This alerted me to the fact that something exciting was about to happen. It was then when Reaves obtained the ball and made a successful three-point shot. Fueled by excitement, I dashed out of the house, sprinted to the end of the block, and joyfully leaped up and down.”
Kowalis’s winnings were promptly credited to his account by FanDuel Sportsbook MI, with the taxes already deducted for his convenience.
Kowalis has received a special invitation from FanDuel to visit their national studios and discuss his parlay.
Parlay betting usually a winner for sportsbooks, not bettors
Kowalis, an experienced bettor from Michigan, advises against placing parlay bets.
He stated that while there is a considerable amount of strategy involved, it is important to note that this practice is not commonly recommended. It is entertaining to witness the boxes being ticked off, but it should not be relied upon as a daily betting method. These types of bets are challenging and have long odds for a reason. It is still wiser to place single plays for consistent and secure betting, allowing you to gradually grow your bankroll. While everyone desires to achieve a substantial parlay, he is grateful for his successful experience, but acknowledges that it is a rare occurrence.
Kowalis has discovered parallels between constructing a parlay and engaging in DFS when searching for a parlay play.
Kowalis, a former professional DFS player in the NBA, explained that selecting a Same Game Parlay is quite similar to playing DFS. With years of NBA-watching experience, Kowalis believes they have developed a keen sense of game flow. They mentioned that if there is a significant point spread, it often results in blowouts and lower player prop scores. Conversely, in close games with high total scores, the trend leans towards higher player prop scores. Kowalis emphasized that the NBA offers more predictable patterns compared to other sports, particularly when it comes to specific matchups and their impact on player performance.
During the NBA season, Kowalis has successfully achieved six parlays with odds greater than +1000, and even managed to hit one with odds as high as +10000.
