The Michigan Lottery has potentially reached its peak with the introduction of a brand-new $10 Golden Ticket instant win game, inspired by Willy Wonka.
The Golden Ticket is a conventional scratch-off ticket that offers the opportunity to win an extraordinary grand prize through a second-chance drawing, with the potential value of up to… ONE BILLION DOLLARS.
On July 3, the Golden Ticket game will make its debut and can be purchased at all 11,000 Michigan Lottery retail locations.
How Golden Ticket works
The Golden Ticket game operates as follows, according to the website of the Michigan Lottery, along with the usual instant win rewards ranging from $10 to $1,000,000.
Each $10 GOLDEN TICKET™ provides players with 20 opportunities to win instant prizes ranging from $10 to $1 million. Additionally, players can enter codes from non-winning tickets for a shot at winning one of 15 trips for two to Las Vegas. Winners will also get the incredible opportunity to participate in the BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE™ and potentially win up to $1 billion.
The specifics of the “BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE” and the criteria for determining the grand prize amount remain uncertain at present. Given its location in Las Vegas, it is reasonable to assume that there will likely be an additional gambling aspect involved.
It would be truly ironic if the lucky recipient of the grand prize in a Willy Wonka-inspired lottery game was informed, “You shall receive… ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! You have lost! Have a pleasant day, sir!”
When will the grand prize drawings take place
The Las Vegas trip drawings are scheduled for the following dates:
- August 3
- August 31
- September 28
- October 26
- November 30
Based on the appearance, it seems that three winners will be chosen in every drawing.
Trip winners will receive:
- Four days and three nights of luxurious hotel accommodations.
- round-trip airfare for two
- Transportation to and from the Las Vegas airport and hotel on land.
- $1,000 spending money
Instant win tickets have been growing in price
Gone are the days when $1 instant win tickets were abundant. Not only are the prizes on the rise, but the cost of tickets is also skyrocketing. This increase in prices is attributed to the state lotteries’ efforts to maintain high revenue streams.
Michigan’s Golden Ticket game is reasonably priced at $10, whereas other states have introduced instant win tickets that range from $20 to $50.
The increasing costs (accompanied by rather extravagant grand prizes) are largely influenced by the diminishing number of lottery participants.
In a panel discussion at G2E titled “Intersection of iGaming and Lottery,” all three panelists concurred that the increase in lottery sales observed in several states last year can be attributed primarily to the occurrence of numerous colossal Powerball jackpots and the escalating prices of scratch tickets. Surprisingly, the panel revealed a decline in the number of individuals engaging in the lottery, with the remaining participants predominantly belonging to an aging demographic.
