Other notable prizes from this year’s Michigan Lottery include:
- On April 8th, only one out of the 23 $1 million prizes was won through online play, specifically on Mega Millions.
- In 2022, there have been 23 prizes worth a minimum of $1 million, along with an additional 88 prizes awarded, each valued at least $100,000.
- A grand total of 348 prizes, each valued at a minimum of $600, have been granted within the initial two days of June.
Instant retail games sit up top
In 2022, the most coveted rewards comprised exclusively of games bought from retail stores, each belonging to various genres of instant games.
According to Jake Harris, the Player Relations Manager for the Michigan Lottery, what sets instant games apart from draw games is their ability to attract both avid and casual players. He believes that instant games have a wide appeal that appeals to people from all walks of life.
Although most of the top prizes for those games have already been won, the good news is that four grand prizes are still up for grabs.
As of Thursday night, both Extreme Cash and $4,000,000 Cash still have two remaining $4 million prizes up for grabs.
Bigger tickets drawing more interest
The top prizes were all awarded from $30 instant games, and as the cost of each ticket increases, the top prizes also increase.
According to Harris, it is the tickets with a value of $5 or more that are generating the highest revenue for the Michigan Lottery.
According to Harris, the current issue revolves around the price points. Generally, games priced at $5 or higher tend to perform better. This could be due to player interest and the prize structure. For instance, a $1 instant game usually offers a top prize of around $5,000, while a $2 ticket can potentially yield $30,000 to $50,000, depending on the game. However, once the price reaches $5, the top prizes typically range from $300,000 to $500,000. Therefore, it seems that players are drawn to games that offer substantial rewards.
There are currently 89 instant retail games available in Michigan, with varying numbers of different games at each ticket price.
- $1: 8
- $2: 18
- $5: 22
- $10: 18
- $20: 16
- $30: 7
Online presence growing
Despite retail remaining the primary source of business for the Michigan Lottery, the expansion of its online games collection has been ongoing.
At present, the Michigan Lottery provides a selection of 148 online games on its website, surpassing the limited 89 in-store options.
A newer trend that has emerged involves players having the option to utilize non-winning tickets from specific games to participate in second-chance games on the website.
Harris stated that players are advised to keep their non-winning tickets and use the Michigan Lottery app to scan the ticket’s barcode. This will grant them entry into second chance games for an opportunity to win cash. According to Harris, there will be an increasing number of promotions that bridge the gap between online and traditional retail platforms. This development is beneficial for lottery players in general, and thus far, it has been well-received by players.
