Michigan sports betting revenue

In February 2025, there was a significant decrease in both month-to-month and year-over-year handle for sports betting in Michigan.

In the month, Michigan sports betting operators witnessed a decline of 27.2% from January and a further drop of 15.7% from February 2022, with a total handle of just $357.2 million.

The handle for online sports betting was $344.9 million, marking a 13.4% decrease compared to the previous year.

According to Paul Costanzo, the lead analyst at Playinmichigan, the sports betting figures in Michigan experienced a significant decline of 15.7% compared to the previous year. This drop cannot solely be attributed to the underperforming retail sportsbooks, as online sports betting also saw a decrease of 13.4%. Although the Super Bowl might have contributed to a substantial portion of this decline, there were limited other local events to capture the interest of sports bettors in Michigan during the month.

Three takeaways from February Michigan sports betting revenue report

Four operators show year-to-year growth

Last month, there was not only bad news for Michigan’s online sportsbook operators.

Despite an overall decline in the state’s economy in February 2022, a few areas experienced growth compared to the previous year.

FanDuel Sportsbook, the leading operator in Michigan, recorded a revenue of $122.7 million, indicating a marginal increase compared to its $122.4 million in February 2022.

Other operators that experienced year-over-year growth included:

  • The BetRivers Sportsbook experienced a significant increase in revenue, reaching $8.8 million, which is a 45.1% surge compared to the $6.1 million generated in the previous year of 2022.
  • The SI Sportsbook, previously known as TwinSpires, experienced a slight increase of 0.6% from $1.250 million in 2022 to $1.257 million.
  • The Golden Nugget Sportsbook experienced a significant increase in revenue, reaching $1.246 million, which represents a 40.6% growth compared to the $886,420 generated in 2022.

BetRivers continues to surge

Earlier this month, we examined some encouraging indicators for the BetRivers online sportsbook and casino.

The impressive performance of both strong numbers contributed significantly to Rush Street Interactive’s exceptional Q4 financial report.

In January, BetRivers Sportsbook MI achieved a remarkable milestone by generating a record-breaking $11.14 million in online handle. This success was followed by an impressive $8.8 million in February, marking the fourth-highest total ever attained by BetRivers in the state of Michigan.

The Little River Casino’s online operator has achieved a remarkable feat, as it has now reported a continuous streak of four months with an online sports betting handle of no less than $8.8 million.

Michigan bettors score big at select operators

In February, Michigan’s sports betting operators recorded a combined hold of 6.5%, indicating a slight decline from the previous month’s 6.9%.

Nevertheless, a few particular operators endured significant losses at the betting window, most likely due to successful NFL futures bets being paid out.

WynnBet Sportsbook MI suffered the most, recording a meager 0.1% hold for February and generating a mere $1,566 in revenue.

Despite BetRivers having a successful month, it was unable to fully capitalize on its achievements. In February, BetRivers only managed to generate $132,856 in revenue, representing a modest 1.5% hold.

In total, there were six online sportsbooks that had a hold of less than 4% in February. Additionally, there were others that had:

  • DraftKings Sportsbook in Michigan generated $3.2 million in revenue, accounting for a 3.6% share.
  • Barstool Sportsbook in Michigan earned $116,314 in revenue, with a hold percentage of 0.6%.
  • The Golden Nugget Sportsbook in Michigan generated $30,954 in revenue with a hold percentage of 2.5%.
  • The FireKeepers Sportsbook in Michigan generated $29,136 in revenue with a hold rate of 2.2%.
