According to projections from Playinmichigan, Michigan sports bettors are expected to wager over $53 million on Super Bowl LVII, positioning our state as the eighth-highest in terms of projected Super Bowl handle across the nation.

The upcoming Super Bowl, featuring a face-off between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs, has the potential to generate over $1 billion in wagers across the nation.

How much will be bet on the Super Bowl at Michigan sportsbooks?

In January 2021, Michigan introduced legal online sports betting, conveniently timed just a few weeks before Super Bowl LV.

In that specific year, sportsbooks in Michigan managed an estimated total of $25 million in bets.

Michigan bettors wagered approximately $50 million during Super Bowl LVI, doubling the previous year’s total. The local interest in the game was heightened by the presence of Matthew Stafford, who played for the Los Angeles Rams.

According to projections, Michigan is expected to reach a sports betting plateau this year, with an estimated increase of 7.4% amounting to $53.7 million. Although projections are not precise, any figure within 10% above or below this number would still fall within expected outcomes.

Eric Ramsey, market analyst for Catena Media, stated that predicting the Michigan market for the Super Bowl is challenging due to the lack of historical data. However, looking at broader betting trends, it is anticipated that the 2025 Super Bowl in Michigan will have a similar performance to that of 2022. Ramsey also mentioned that it is expected to slightly underperform the national average once again, and for there to be a need for a turnaround by the Lions to ignite significant growth in local betting interest. Regardless of specific numbers and matchups, Ramsey emphasized that Super Bowl Sunday will be a highly active day for sportsbooks in Michigan.

Americans expected to wager more than $1 billion on Super Bowl

For quite some time, the Super Bowl has maintained its position as the most wagered-on sporting event in America.

With the growing legalization of online sports betting in more than twenty-five states, it is highly probable that Super Bowl LVII will establish a new milestone as the most-wagered event.

According to PlayUSA, the Super Bowl has the potential to generate around $1.14 billion in bets, projecting an increase from last year’s game which saw over $937 million in bets.

Michigan projected to be top 10 nationally in Super Bowl bets

This year, Michigan is expected to rank eighth in terms of the highest amount of money wagered on the Super Bowl.

Ohio, having recently legalized online sports betting, stands among the pioneering states in this regard as the new year commences.

The game is expected to generate $38.8 million in wagers in neighboring Indiana, in addition to Ohio.
