Following a slight scare last weekend, the undefeated No. 4 Michigan is set to take its flawless 4-0 record on the road for the first time this week.

Saturday’s Big Noon Kickoff college football game on FOX will feature the Wolverines traveling to Iowa.

Even though Michigan failed to cover the spread against Maryland, they are still considered a strong favorite with a double-digit point spread in Week 5.

After last week’s performance, will sports bettors in Michigan be inclined to bet on the points?

Once again, Michigan is the clear favorite by double digits as it travels to Iowa for Week 5 of football.

Initially, the majority of sportsbooks listed Michigan as a favorite by 10 to 10.5 points for the upcoming B1G game on Saturday. However, the point spread has now increased to 11 points at the majority of books.

Michigan’s season has the lowest over/under total, falling between 42 and 43 points.

Michigan football betting trends

Despite being favored by 17 points, Michigan started the season with a perfect 4-0 record after defeating Maryland 34-27 on Saturday.

The current record for Michigan against the spread this season stands at 2-2. However, in their previous 18 games, the Wolverines have successfully covered the spread in 13 of them.

Last weekend, Iowa kicked off Big Ten play with a victorious 27-10 triumph over Rutgers. With this win, the Hawkeyes have reached a 3-1 record this season, their only loss being a close 10-7 defeat against Iowa State in Week 2. It is worth noting that Iowa has a 2-2 record against the spread, successfully covering in their last two games.

Both teams have chosen to go with the under in three out of their four games.

What can bettors expect from Michigan football in Week 5?

On Saturday, Michigan faced their first significant challenge of the 2022 season, and although they didn’t excel, they managed to retain their No. 4 position in both the College Football Rankings.

Maryland remained competitive throughout the game, but a crucial turnover on the opening kickoff by the Terps led to U-M taking a quick 7-0 lead only eight seconds into the game.

In his first appearance as quarterback, J.J. McCarthy showcased his skills by completing 18 out of 26 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns. Although his performance may not have lived up to the high expectations, it is still commendable. The upcoming challenge for McCarthy lies in his ability to handle his first away game against the formidable Iowa defense.

Currently, the Hawkeyes hold the distinction of allowing the fewest points (5.8 per game) in the entire nation, while also securing a fifth-place ranking in total defense (236.3 yards per game) on a national level.

Once again, Michigan will probably depend on Blake Corum. The junior running back had an exceptional performance against Maryland, accumulating a personal best of 243 yards on 30 carries. However, Corum faces a tough challenge this week against the Hawkeye run defense, which only allows an average of 73 yards per game.

Over the weekend, Corum witnessed a significant surge in his Heisman Trophy odds. Currently, at DraftKings Sportsbook MI, his chances of winning the prestigious honor have risen to +3500. Impressively, he currently holds the seventh position nationwide in terms of rushing yards, amassing a total of 478 yards. Moreover, Corum has established himself as the nation’s leading rusher in terms of touchdowns, with an impressive tally of 9.

On Saturday, the Michigan defense had their worst performance of the season, allowing Maryland to accumulate almost 400 yards.

The Wolverines have reason to be optimistic as the Iowa offense closely resembles that of Michigan’s previous three opponents. The Hawkeyes currently rank 131st in total offense nationally, averaging 233 yards per game, and 120th in scoring, with just 17 points per game.

Saturday will prove to be a tough test for McCarthy as he faces Iowa’s formidable defense. Adding to the challenge is the fact that this will be his first time starting a game away from home, which may make things even more difficult.

On Saturday, DraftKings Sportsbook MI has set the passing yards over/under at a mere 211.5, along with an over/under of 1.5 passing touchdowns.

DK sets the bar at 83.5 rushing yards for Corum to continue his successful season. Additionally, his chances of scoring a touchdown stand at -210.
