There is now an additional online betting option available for horse racing enthusiasts in Michigan.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board announced that Xpress Bet has been granted a temporary license to accept bets on Wednesday.
Xpress Bet has recently joined Michigan’s advanced deposit wagering platforms, making it the third option alongside TVG and TwinSpires.
Horse wagering from your phone is now possible with the inclusion of ADW. This feature was made available through the expanded gambling laws approved by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in December 2019. Additionally, the same legislation allowed for online sports betting and internet gaming, which were launched on January 22.
Xpress owned by Canadian company 1/ST
Xpress Bet, controlled by Ontario company 1/ST, has entered into an undisclosed third-party facilitator agreement with Northville Downs, the sole horse racing track in Michigan. This agreement is mandatory under the newly established laws.
1/ST has become the inaugural Canadian operator to receive approval in Michigan, making it the first of its kind to offer online wagering, including horse racing bets, in the state.
TVG, a subsidiary of the FanDuel Group, launched in June, while TwinSpires, a division of Churchill Downs Technology Initiatives Co., went live in September, right before the postponed 2020 Kentucky Derby.
