After a $215 buy-in tournament with a guaranteed prize pool of $50,000 on June 20 in the late afternoon, the series proceeds with one event every evening until the following Sunday.

Guarantees scaled back slightly after May series
The BetMGM Online Series at BetMGM Poker MI bears resemblance to its initial two versions, albeit with a reduction in the overall total of guarantees.
The inaugural BetMGM Online Series took place in April, just a short time after its initial launch in late March. With a total guarantee of $300,000, the series proved to be a success as players ultimately raked in over $360,000 in winnings.
In May, the second edition with 10 tournaments increased the overall guarantees to $315,000. However, the number of participants was noticeably lower, resulting in nine out of the ten events having overlays.
The addition of approximately $65,000 to the prize pools by BetMGM Poker MI during the series inevitably impacted the determination of guarantees for the upcoming month’s event.
PokerStars remains the Michigan online poker ‘big stack’
BetMGM Poker MI did not receive assistance in May due to the unfortunate timing of its second series, which happened to overlap with the concluding week of the Michigan Spring Championship of Online Poker (MISCOOP) on PokerStars MI.
The 17-day MISCOOP concluded with a total prize distribution of over $2.35 million across 120 tournaments. Notably, the MISCOOP Main Event, which required a $300 buy-in, alone boasted a prize pool of almost $244,000. This amount alone rivaled the cumulative prize money awarded throughout the entire BetMGM Online Series.
The competition between Michigan’s two online poker sites can be compared to a “duel,” just like the disparity seen in their Easter events. While PokerStars MI organized the Michigan Classic event with a substantial $500,000 guarantee, the recently launched BetMGM site hosted a more humble $50,000 freeroll.
PokerStars MI has undoubtedly gained an advantage by launching three months earlier than its competitors. However, when evaluating success, the smaller site will probably be more interested in comparing June’s BetMGM Online Series with its own previous two editions, rather than focusing on what its market rival accomplishes.
