More tweaking of guarantees for BetMGM Online Series
Up until now, every BetMGM Online Series has consisted of 10 tournaments spanning across eight days. Nevertheless, the guarantees have experienced some alterations in each subsequent edition.
In April, the initial set of 10 events guaranteed $300,000, and a total of slightly over $360,000 was ultimately distributed.
The total guarantees were increased to $315,000 in May, however, there were several overlays. BetMGM Poker MI had to contribute approximately $65,000 to the prize pools throughout the process.
In June, the total guarantees were reduced to $275,000. Despite some overlays, players managed to win nearly $350,000 throughout the series. Consequently, the guarantees for July have been modestly increased to $285,000, surpassing last month’s series.
In June, the $20 buy-in event gained significant popularity. Despite only guaranteeing $5,000, this event managed to attract a remarkable 2,169 entries, resulting in a prize pool exceeding $39,000. Additionally, the high-stakes $1,060 buy-in event with a $75,000 guarantee also performed admirably, drawing in 97 entries and forming a prize pool of $97,000.
BetMGM continues to provide PokerStars its only rival in Michigan
Despite a valiant effort, BetMGM Poker MI is still facing tough competition from PokerStars Michigan. According to PokerScout, PokerStars MI continues to draw in considerably more players compared to BetMGM Poker MI. This can be attributed to PokerStars’ advantage of launching two months earlier in late January 2021.
In June, the Summer Stack Festival hosted by PokerStars MI came to an end, coinciding with the final week of the BetMGM Online Series. The Summer Stack series spanned 17 days and featured 100 events, with a total prize pool of almost $1.1 million.
Following the Michigan Spring Championship of Online Poker in May, where participants earned a staggering $2.35 million, it became evident that this series marked the pinnacle of achievements on PokerStars MI and within the relatively brief timeline of online poker in Michigan.
However, both sites might face increased competition in the near future. The World Series of Poker Pennsylvania is set to launch this week, and it is highly anticipated that Michigan will be the next location to host a WSOP online poker room.
