This weekend, the Central Michigan Chippewas are embarking on their second road trip to face off against an opponent from the Southeastern Conference as they make their way to LSU.

Coach Jim McElwain’s football team is facing a tough challenge this Saturday as they head to Tiger Stadium. The point spread, opening at 21 points, clearly favors the 2019 national champions, making McElwain’s team the heavy underdogs.

The number at most Michigan sportsbooks has dropped to below 20 points. Check out our real-time odds tracker below.

Nevertheless, despite McElwain’s absence in the first game against Missouri, the Chippewas managed to cover a two-touchdown spread against the SEC’s Tigers, ultimately losing with a score of 34-24.

After going 16-8 in SEC games during his tenure as the Florida coach, McElwain made a triumphant return to the CMU sidelines last week. He had missed the Mizzou trip due to surgery for appendicitis. With the coach back in action, CMU secured a resounding victory in their home opener, defeating Robert Morris by a commanding score of 45-0.

LSU unranked after dropping opener at UCLA

The LSU Tigers, led by Coach Ed Orgeron, started the season with a No. 16 ranking in the Associated Press Top 25. However, they suffered a 38-27 defeat in their first game against UCLA.

On Saturday, LSU Tigers swiftly defeated McNeese State, a FCS opponent, with a score of 34-7. This victory earned LSU a total of 26 points in the AP poll, placing them at the 38th spot.

On Saturday, Max Johnson, a left-handed sophomore QB and the son of former NFL quarterback Brad Johnson, will have the opportunity to put his impressive streak to the test. As the first LSU quarterback, he has achieved the remarkable feat of throwing for three touchdowns in each of his first four starts.

Keep an eye out, Detroit Lions fans, as junior cornerback Derek Stingley, a potential No. 1 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, is a player worth watching on the LSU defense.

Stingley boasts a record of six interceptions throughout his career and forms an exceptional pair with sophomore CB Eli Ricks, making them one of the finest duos in the country.

Tiger Stadium has witnessed LSU’s triumph in 56 out of their last 57 non-conference games.

Washington transfer QB Jacob Sirmon starting strong for Chippewas

In his third year, McElwain has successfully established a strong program in Mount Pleasant and is currently experiencing a promising beginning.

After transferring from Washington, Jacob Sirmon, a sophomore, has taken over as the Chippewas’ quarterback. In the first two games, Sirmon has showcased his skills by completing 57.4% of his passes for a total of 405 yards and four touchdowns. However, he did face two interceptions in the game against Mizzou.

In the blowout victory, Kalil Pimpleton, a junior wide receiver, showcased his versatility by accumulating a game-leading 109 all-purpose yards against Robert Morris. Additionally, the Chippewas’ backfield saw 10 different players carry the ball.

Saturday will mark the first ever meeting between CMU and LSU.
