On Monday, FireKeepers Casino in Battle Creek made history as the inaugural tribal casino in Michigan to introduce a sportsbook.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all of Detroit’s casinos are currently closed. As a result, Dacey’s Sportsbook at FireKeepers stands as the sole legal destination for sports betting in the Great Lakes State this week.

Scientific Games has partnered with the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi to oversee the operation of Dacey’s retail sportsbook, as well as manage the upcoming online sports betting and casino games.

Four kiosks for now at Dacey’s Sportsbook

On Monday morning at FireKeepers, the sportsbook was officially inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This event took place after FireKeepers reopened on June 1.

According to Jim Wise, the VP of sports/online gaming at FireKeepers, players have the option to place their bets either in person or through four convenient self-serve kiosks.

According to Wise, FireKeepers aims to establish approximately twelve kiosks before Labor Day.

FireKeepers sportsbook is fourth in state

There are currently three retail sportsbooks operating in Detroit, Michigan.

BetMGM Sportsbook was unveiled by MGM Grand Detroit on March 11, while Greektown Casino-Hotel introduced its temporary sportsbook on the same day.

As global sports faced closures due to the coronavirus pandemic, MotorCity Casino seized the opportunity and introduced the FanDuel Online Sportsbook on the very next day.

FireKeepers had initially scheduled to launch Dacey’s in the spring, but due to the pandemic, they had to postpone it.

No other launch dates planned for Michigan sportsbooks

Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mount Pleasant, the largest tribal casino in the state, has yet to disclose its sports betting partnership or release any information regarding its launch plans.

However, numerous tribal casinos in Michigan have disclosed their partnerships for sportsbooks, without specifying any launch dates.

Some of the things that are included are:

  • DraftKings has formed a partnership with Bay Mills Casino in Brimley.
  • Parx Casino has formed a partnership with Gun Lake Casino in Wayland.
  • Kewadin Casinos in the Upper Peninsula have collaborated with GAN to integrate their sportsbook technology platform.
  • William Hill has joined forces with Leelanau Sands and Turtle Creek casinos.
  • On Monday, an exciting collaboration was revealed as Little River Casino in Manistee joined forces with Rush Street Interactive to introduce the highly anticipated BetRivers.
  • PointsBet has formed a partnership with Northern Waters Casino located in Watersmeet.
  • The Stars Group, operators of Fox Bet, formed a partnership with Odawa Casinos.

Online gambling coming later this year to Michigan

An early 2021 launch was anticipated when Gov. Gretchen Whitmer approved the expanded gambling laws in December.

This month, Executive Director Richard Kalm of the Michigan Gaming Control Board expressed cautious optimism regarding the possibility of launching this year.

Last week, Sen. Adam Hollier presented a bill in the Michigan Senate, proposing the issuance of temporary licenses to online casino operators who are licensed in other states, as a response to the ongoing pandemic.

The launch of online sports betting is not affected by the bill.
