Dixon, Herta among the race favorites

The man starting up front is the favorite to win Sunday’s race.

After securing the pole position in the race last weekend, Scott Dixon has emerged as the frontrunner in the betting odds.

He is listed as +350 to win on both DraftKings Sportsbook MI and BetMGM Sportsbook MI.

After Colton Herta, the odds begin to vary. The following are the top-7 contenders:

  • Patricio O’Ward: DK odds +1000, MGM odds +850.
  • Josef Newgarden’s odds on DraftKings are +1400, while on MGM they are +1200.
  • Alex Palou’s odds are +1400 on DK and +1200 on MGM.
  • The odds for Alexander Rossi are +1400 on DK and +1200 on MGM.
  • Tony Kanaan has odds of +1600 on DraftKings and +1400 on MGM.

Dixon with storied history at the Brickyard

For the fourth time in his Indy 500 career, Scott Dixon finds himself in familiar territory – starting from the pole position.

He has more experience in this race than most drivers in this field. This upcoming Indy 500 race will mark his 19th participation.

Out of the 19 races, Dixon has only managed to win once, which took place in 2008. Nevertheless, he also secured the pole position in that race.

By a significant margin, the pole position has yielded the highest number of winners in this race. A total of 21 victors have emerged from starting in the first position. Following closely is the third position, from which 13 winners have emerged.

As of now in 2021, Dixon holds the top spot in IndyCar points. With one victory and four top-5 placements in five races this season, he has showcased an impressive performance.

Despite not being an exciting option to bet on, Dixon has achieved 12 top-10 finishes in the Indy 500. If you’re looking for alternative betting choices other than a win, consider the following options:

  • The top three have a score of +120.
  • Here are the top 5 negative numbers:<br>1. -177
  • 10 Worst: -420

Castroneves can join elite company

On Sunday, Helio Castroneves, a Brazilian driver, will be vying for his fourth Indy 500 triumph, a feat accomplished only by three historical drivers: A.J. Foyt, Al Unser Sr., and Rick Mears.

DraftKings and BetMGM have listed him as a significant underdog with odds of +3000 to secure his fourth title on Sunday.

After his victory in 2009, Castroneves has only managed to secure a top 5 position on two occasions, coming in second place in 2014 and 2017. However, in the past three years, he has failed to finish within the top 10.

Castroneves has yet to participate in any race this year, but he is now preparing to showcase his skills in pursuit of his fourth Indy 500 championship.

Two winners have emerged from the eighth position, and Castroneves will start from there on Sunday.

Herta, O’Ward, Newgarden seek first win

Oddsmakers are showing a lot of support for 21-year-old Colton Herta, who is making only his third appearance in the Indy 500.

In the previous year’s event, he secured the eighth place, while in the 2019 race, he settled for the 33rd position. This year, he begins in the second spot next to Dixon. Notably, this position has seen a total of 11 victorious drivers throughout the history of the race. Although Herta has achieved one win this year, he has also experienced three finishes beyond the top 10.

Patricio O’Ward will be participating in his second Indy 500, following his impressive sixth-place finish in his debut race in 2020. This year, O’Ward will be starting from the 12th position, a starting point that has resulted in two victorious outcomes throughout the event’s history.

O’Ward’s performance this season has been inconsistent. Out of five races, he managed to secure one victory and achieved three top-5 finishes. However, he faced disappointment in the remaining two races, finishing 15th or worse.

Despite coming close to victory, Newgarden has secured top-5 placements three times but is yet to conquer the coveted checkered flag at the Indy 500.

Beginning in the seventh row and in 21st position, he faces an uphill climb. It is worth noting that only one winner has emerged from that particular spot since 1924.

Newgarden, in his quest for his inaugural victory this season, has achieved two second-place finishes, along with a respectable fourth and sixth position in five races.

Sato looks to repeat

Due to COVID-19, the 2020 Indy 500 was rescheduled to August 23, and Takuma Sato emerged victorious, securing his second win.

Sato aims to achieve a remarkable feat by becoming the first driver since Castroneves in 2001 and 2002 to win consecutive Indianapolis 500 championships.

Sato’s chances are not highly favored according to oddsmakers. DraftKings offers odds of +2000, while BetMGM lists him at +1800.

Sato is set to begin Sunday’s race from the fifteenth position in the fifth row. Historically, four winners have emerged from this spot, with the most recent victory occurring in 2015.

Apart from Sato’s two victories, he only managed to secure a third-place finish in 2019. In his remaining eight races, he finished outside the top 10.
