During the opening week of World Series of Poker Michigan, it is highly likely that online poker players may have found themselves virtually seated next to the renowned Joe Cada.

Since the launch of the platform on Monday morning, the 2009 WSOP Main Event winner and Michigan resident has been playing every day.

However, are other players able to identify him?

Cada expressed to Playinmichigan that the situation is rather diverse. He speculates that approximately one or two players out of ten recognize him. During a recent podcast, he shared that often when he joins a poker table, not everyone acknowledges his identity. Despite winning the Main Event 13 years ago, not everyone was following the event at that time. While some individuals are familiar with who he is, others remain unaware.

Joe Cada helping to promote WSOP Michigan

Not only has Cada signed a deal as a local poker ambassador, but he is also thrilled about the launch of WSOP MI.

Cada expressed his immense admiration for the WSOP, stating that his love for poker began when he first started playing. Nowadays, he primarily engages in online poker and rarely participates in in-person games or travels extensively, except for the World Series. He eagerly awaits the forthcoming connection of states and the potential it holds. Despite this, he remains enthusiastic about the future of poker and the direction it is heading towards.

He mentioned that his collaboration with WSOP is extensive, involving various promotional activities. A significant aspect of this partnership entails participating in games on the platform and organizing tournaments. As part of this, WSOP Michigan is providing a $1,000 bonus to any Michigan resident who can outperform Cada in the 2022 WSOP Main Event.

Cada expressed that he has been actively seeking opportunities to engage with a diverse group of players. Apart from participating in cash games and smaller tournaments, he recently played a freeroll on the first day. He finds great enjoyment in returning to the lower stake tournaments and playing alongside everyone.

Additionally, he intends to engage in streaming activities on Twitch.

The prospect of Michigan online poker players participating in satellites for the Main Event is a significant source of excitement for Cada regarding the launch of WSOP MI.

Players from around the state of Michigan have mostly given positive feedback regarding the launch of WSOP Michigan.

Cada a four-time WSOP bracelet winner

At 21 years and 11 months old, Cada became the youngest player in history to win the 2009 WSOP Main Event, earning a remarkable $8.5 million prize. This impressive achievement brought great fortune to the young prodigy from Shelby Township.

In addition to reaching the final table of the Main Event once more in 2018, he has achieved an impressive record of winning four WSOP bracelets. His previous victories include triumphs in the $10K No Limit Texas Hold’Em Six Handed tournament in 2014, the $3K No Limit Hold’Em Shootout tournament in 2018, and the $1.5K The Closer No Limit Hold’Em tournament, also held in 2018.

According to his WSOP player profile, he has amassed over $13.6 million in career earnings.

Despite achieving widespread success as a professional poker player, Cada remains deeply connected to his Michigan roots, particularly when it involves supporting the local sports teams.

Cada expressed his passion for sports, stating, “I am an avid fan of all the Michigan teams. I proudly support them as a devoted homer.”
