Flat tires seldom result in a beneficial outcome.
However, a man from mid-Michigan recently found himself incredibly wealthy due to a single occurrence.
Recently, a man from Ionia County found himself at a Mobil gas station in Webberville due to a flat tire. Surprisingly, his visit took an unexpected turn when he decided to purchase an instant Michigan Lottery ticket, ultimately winning a staggering $1 million prize.
The individual, desiring anonymity, opted for a single lump sum reward of $634,000 from the Millionaire Maker instant game.
Quite the fortunate flat tire for Ionia County man
In addition to buying a sandwich at the gas station, the man’s most crucial purchase was his ticket.
The ticket that cost $20 was bought at the Mobil store situated at 2524 North M-52 in Webberville.
According to a news release from the Michigan Lottery, the player shared their experience, saying, “As I was dealing with a tire that was losing air pressure on my car, I decided to pull over and address it. While I was at it, I also grabbed a sandwich. Surprisingly, that’s when I received the ticket that led to my ticket. I scratched it in my car and became so thrilled that I completely forgot about the sandwich I had bought.”
Winning player will use funds to pay off debts
The man stated that his intentions with his winnings are not to indulge in replacement sandwiches, but rather to prioritize paying off his debts. Following that, he plans to generously share a portion of his winnings with his family, while responsibly setting aside the remaining amount for savings.
The man visited Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing to claim his winnings as they exceeded $99,999.
Lottery claims centers are available in Detroit, Grand Rapids, Livonia, Saginaw, and Sterling Heights. In the past, players were limited to claiming prizes of $50,000 or less at these centers.
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the lottery has recently increased the limit and established additional claim centers throughout the state.
In addition, Northern Michigan residents have the option to file claims at any of the five branch offices of the Secretary of State.
