Fast start, slow finish for October BetMGM Online Series
Large crowds showed up for the first two events on Sunday, October 24, surpassing all expectations and guarantees.
Once again, the $20 “Mini” event was a huge hit, with an astonishing 2,507 participants. Despite the initial $10,000 guarantee, the total number of entries surpassed expectations, resulting in a prize pool exceeding $45,000, making it one of the biggest of the series.
Throughout the week, the majority of events successfully achieved their guarantees. Nevertheless, the concluding day of action on Halloween, Sunday, turned out to be more of a trick than a treat for BetMGM Poker MI. Unfortunately, both of the two events failed to attract enough participants to reach their guarantees, resulting in overlays.
The “Sunday Special,” which required a $215 buy-in and offered a $40,000 guarantee, enticed 160 participants and resulted in an $8,000 surplus. Conversely, the final event of the series, a high roller competition with a $1,060 buy-in and a $50,000 guarantee, only attracted 38 contenders. Consequently, BetMGM Poker MI had to contribute an additional $12,000 to meet the promised prize pool.
The $320 buy-in progressive knockout bounty tournament, which was supposed to take place last Saturday, is absent from the client interface, indicating its probable cancellation.

Online series total money award slips from summer highs
The seventh edition of the BetMGM online poker series has set a new record for the smallest amount of money awarded, with a total of just over $288,000 won.
In the month of September, the players were able to secure a total of approximately $357,000 in winnings during the series. This came after the previous month’s series in August, where the highest amount ever awarded in the BetMGM Online Series was over $432,000.
The total guarantees for the October BetMGM Online Series amounted to only $230,000, marking the lowest in guarantees thus far.
Heads-up battle with PokerStars MI continues for BetMGM Poker MI
BetMGM Poker MI is putting up a strong fight against its only online poker rival in Michigan, PokerStars MI.
The Michigan Classic held on PokerStars MI clashed with the initial two days of the BetMGM Online Series. With a buy-in of $300 and a guaranteed prize pool of $250,000, the tournament managed to draw in over 800 participants. However, despite the considerable turnout, there was still an approximate shortfall of $24,000.
Despite this, the prize money given out in just one PokerStars MI event was almost equal to the total amount awarded in the entire BetMGM Online Series.
For now, the competition between PokerStars and BetMGM will persist in the online poker landscape of Michigan. However, both platforms anticipate the potential entry of WSOP Michigan, a new player in the market, which might occur sooner rather than later.
