Last week, while many media members in Detroit overlooked the fact, Mike Valenti, the drive-time radio host, astutely recognized that the Detroit Lions continue to be subpar.

During Friday’s show, Valenti and his partner Rico Beard from 971 The Ticket confidently bet on the Philadelphia Eagles to win with a 3.5 point advantage for Sunday’s game. Their prediction proved to be accurate as the Eagles triumphed with a resounding 44-6 victory at Ford Field.

Valenti had a successful week in NFL picks, going 4-1 and bringing his season record to 21-21-1. Among his winning picks were the Cowboys +2.5, Steelers +3.5, and Giants +9.5. The only game he got wrong was the Colts -1.5, which was the opposite of Beard’s pick on the Titans +1.5.

The print journalists didn’t find much success when covering the Lions, as the team has managed to cover the spread in all their games this season except for their latest one. Despite their winless record, the Lions currently stand at 4-4 against the spread.

Actually, out of the eight writers we are monitoring, seven made an incorrect prediction by choosing the Lions, believing that they would secure both the points and the victory.

As we delve into the first complete football season with Michigan online sports betting, we present to you the breakdown of our expert tracking.

Detroit News: Wojo still leading the Detroit field

James Hawkins, the sole insightful writer at the Detroit News, was the only one who saw through the Lions. Although he achieved an 8-7 record for the week, he was outshined by John Niyo, who secured a slightly better 9-6 record and claimed the top spot on the News pages.

Despite this, Bob Wojnowski, a columnist and radio host, continues to dominate the market with his impressive record of 66-54-2 for the season after 7-8 weeks.

On Thursday night, despite the News writers’ unanimous support for the Cardinals -3, they were all proven wrong when Aaron Rodgers led the opposing team to victory. However, their faith in the quartet paid off when they emerged victorious in their prediction of the Seahawks -3.5 over Jacksonville.

Free Press backs the Lions, goes 0-4

Oh dear, Detroit Free Press!

This week, the hapless Free Press quartet, consisting of Dave Birkett, Carlos Monarrez, Jeff Seidel, and Shawn Windsor, continued to face challenges as they all placed their faith in the home team on Sunday.

The paper exclusively focuses on the Lions’ games in the current NFL season, but unfortunately, their performance has been subpar. In fact, all four of our “Wiseguys?” pickers find themselves at the bottom of our tracking standings.

Seidel, specifically, is experiencing a difficult time. With a 1-7 record this season, he will be taking some time to recover during the bye week.

Stoney continues to slide in Circa Millions contest

I guess having almost $50,000 in winnings for the first quarter will suffice.

Earlier this year, Mike Stone, a well-known radio host from Detroit, showcased an impressive winning streak in the Circa Millions contest.

Stoney, together with his college friend and partner, secured a share of the first-place prize in the initial four weeks, earning $49,350 by achieving an impressive 18-2 record.

According to Stoney’s explanation, the water is seeking its own level.

Week 8 was a complete disaster for Stoney as all his bets went sour. He lost on every pick, backing the Falcons with a -3 spread, Bengals with a -10.5 spread, Browns with a -3.5 spread, Washington with a +3 spread, and Chiefs with a -9.5 spread.

At the start of Week 8, Stoney and his partner shared the 12th spot with a record of 26-8-1.

After this, their position in the standings will significantly decline, precisely to a tie for 132nd place.
