PokerStars Michigan concluded its first-ever Summer Stacks Festival on Sunday, adding another milestone to its inaugural year. Spanning from June 12-28, the series successfully distributed nearly $1.1 million in prize money, solidifying its reputation as a flourishing tournament series on PokerStars MI.

100 tournaments, more than $1 million awarded

In total, the 100 tournaments drew in approximately 28,000 participants (including re-entries) and distributed a grand sum of $1,087,430.65 as prize money.

With a buy-in of $100, the Main Event attracted a total of 1,224 participants, resulting in a prize pool that surpassed $112,000, exceeding the guaranteed amount of $100,000. Emerging as the ultimate victor, player “CheckUrPrivlege” claimed a first prize that exceeded $17,600 in value.

After the successful first Michigan Spring Championship of Online Poker on PokerStars MI in May, which saw players winning $2.35 million in just 17 days, the Summer Stacks Festival was held. This festival surpassed the previous series in terms of buy-ins and guarantees, establishing itself as the largest event in the site’s brief history.

Nearly half of events have overlays, many in non-standard tourneys

The total guarantees for the entire series amounted to $1 million exactly. Out of the 100 tournaments, 43 of them resulted in overlays. To fulfill the guarantees for these events, PokerStars MI had to provide a little over $73,000.

Approximately 50% of the overlays exceeded $1,000, with a few instances where PokerStars MI had to contribute over $7,500 to meet the guarantee. These specific cases occurred during larger events featuring a guarantee of $60,000.

It is important to mention that almost half of the tournaments with overlays either had games other than no-limit hold’em, were freezeouts without re-entries, or had unique formats like 4-max or heads-up.

In Summer Stacks Festivals, MI well ahead of NJ, but behind PA

From June 12-28, PokerStars impressively organized the Summer Stacks Festival series simultaneously on all three of its US sites. It’s worth noting that players on each site can only compete against others within their own state and not in a combined player pool.

The series in Pennsylvania and New Jersey had 100 tournaments with buy-ins under $100. The guarantees on PokerStars PA were slightly higher at $1,045,000 compared to PokerStars MI’s $1 million, and the schedules were almost the same. On PokerStars NJ, the guarantees amounted to $500,000.

PokerStars PA emerged as the ultimate winner, boasting the largest series with over 35,000 total entries and players earning almost $1.3 million. Following closely, PokerStars MI had nearly 28,000 total entries and winnings of almost $1.1 million. Meanwhile, PokerStars NJ’s series attracted approximately 15,500 total entries and distributed around $565,000 in prizes.

All the main events had a uniform structure with a $100 buy-in and spanned over two days. The Pennsylvania and Michigan main events boasted $100,000 guarantees, while the New Jersey event had a $50,000 guarantee.

PokerStars PA also outperformed all three sites with an impressive 1,443 entries and a prize pool exceeding $132,000. This overall achievement surpassed Michigan’s results, while New Jersey’s Main Event only managed to attract 539 entries. Additionally, the New Jersey site had to slightly supplement the prize pool in order to meet the $50,000 guarantee.

BetMGM Poker MI series plays out during Summer Stacks final week

During the last week of the Summer Stacks Festival, BetMGM Poker Michigan provided players with an additional tournament option through the BetMGM Online Series.

The schedule for the 10 events offered a total of $275,000 in guaranteed prizes, which was lower compared to previous series on BetMGM Poker MI. Although some events had fewer participants than expected, players managed to win nearly $350,000 overall. This amount was almost equivalent to the prizes awarded in the initial BetMGM Online Series held on the site in April.

All three tournaments on the final day, Sunday, surpassed their guarantees, making it the most successful day.

The highly anticipated $1,060 buy-in tournament, featuring a guaranteed prize of $75,000, saw a total of 97 participants, resulting in a prize pool of $97,000. On the other hand, the $20 buy-in event, which was the most affordable in the series and comparable to the lower buy-in events of the Summer Stacks Festival, garnered an enormous turnout of 2,169 entries. This generated a prize pool exceeding $39,000, nearly eight times the initial guarantee of $5,000.

While the BetMGM Online Series didn’t pose significant competition for PokerStars MI’s series, it did bring some positive developments for BetMGM Poker MI.
