Just before the start of Super Bowl LV, the Michigan Gaming Control Board authorized the introduction of fresh Super Bowl prop bet markets across the state.
Starting from Thursday, operators are now permitted to provide markets including predictions for the coin toss winner, the coin toss call, and the decision made by the coin toss winner ahead of Sunday’s game.
Previously, Michigan sports bettors had the opportunity to place wagers on the outcome of the coin toss, specifically whether it would land on heads or tails.
On Thursday, additional markets were introduced such as NFL roster decisions and season trades. However, the option to bet on the color of the post-game Gatorade shower, which was previously listed as a potential market, is no longer available. This particular market was suggested by an operator but did not receive approval from the MGCB.
In contrast, the Indiana Gaming Commission approved certain props that are banned in Michigan. These include the choice of Gatorade shower color, the first person the Super Bowl MVP will express gratitude to, the potential retirement of player X after the game, and the possibility of a flea-flicker play.
MI sportsbooks add Super Bowl 55 coin toss bets
After the MGCB news and the introduction of new prop bet options, sportsbooks in Michigan wasted no time in broadening their range of offerings. BetMGM Michigan took the lead by adding the highest number of coin toss markets on Friday.
The operator included three additional bets to its offerings, in addition to the already increased -105 odds on both sides of the heads or tails outcome earlier this week.
The markets were bustling with activity.
- What team is favored to win the coin toss? Both teams have odds of -105.
- What will be the call for the coin toss? (Both options have odds of -110)
- What choice will the winner of the coin toss make? (Opt to receive the opening kickoff with odds of +375; defer the option to the second half with odds of -500)
In addition to betting on the outcome of the game, BetMGM bettors can also combine the prediction of which team will win the coin toss with the prediction of whether each team will win or lose the game, offering four more betting options.
DraftKings, William Hill add coin toss winner market
DraftKings Sportsbook included the option to bet on the coin toss winner, with odds of -106 for both Kansas City and Tampa Bay. Additionally, a separate bet was available for choosing either heads or tails, with odds of -103 for both options.
In addition to the existing bet on heads or tails, William Hill Sportsbook has expanded its options by offering a market on which team would win the toss. Both bets, with -101 odds, are available for both sides.
MI Sportsbook | Heads | Tails |
---|---|---|
DraftKings | -103 | -103 |
FanDuel | -103 | -103 |
William Hill | -101 | -101 |
BetMGM | -105 | -105 |
Only ‘season trades’ allowed for NFL
Over the weekend, Michigan operators failed to capitalize on trade markets as the Detroit Lions traded Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams.
In the pre-trade period, Colorado was among the states that provided a Stafford market. Three operators did not rank the Rams among their top-five teams, but BetMGM placed them sixth with odds of +700.
Playinmichigan has received confirmation from Mary Kay Bean, the spokesperson for MGCB, stating that the stipulations for season trades introduced on Thursday will exclusively be applicable to deals made within the season.
Even at present, the Stafford markets remain unavailable for offering in Michigan.
More betting leagues added in other sports
In addition to the football changes, Michigan sports betting fans were treated to a variety of other additions on the menu.
There are now various rugby leagues accessible in different markets, such as the Rugby Football League, Australian Rugby League Commission, New Zealand Rugby League, Four Nations Rugby, and Challenge Cup (UK) Rugby.
Including the Brazil Serie A and B, Argentina Superliga, and the Nigeria Premier League, the MGCB expanded its markets by incorporating a total of 21 soccer leagues.
In addition to the Women’s Tennis Association, Association of Tour Professionals, and grand slam events, the tennis menu was expanded to include International Tennis Federation events.
A submission to introduce wagers for the Cornhole League has been made this week, but it is currently awaiting approval.
