Sunday: The featured online poker day, for good reason

Just like other online poker platforms, the regulated Michigan online poker sites also follow the tradition of Sunday being the most important day of the week. It is during this day that they offer the highest tournament guarantees, just like other online poker sites from the rest of the week.

Every site hosts its own weekly tournament on Sundays. BetMGM Poker offers a featured event with a buy-in of $215 and a guaranteed prize pool of $40,000. Meanwhile, PokerStars presents its flagship Sunday tournament called the Sunday Special, which has a buy-in of $100 and a guaranteed prize pool of $35,000.

I decided to kick off my Sunday poker session at noon by joining four cash game tables. The weekends provide excellent opportunities for cash games. Typically, I opt for stakes of $2/$5 with a maximum buy-in of $500 and $1/$2 with a $200 buy-in. After engaging in the games for four hours, I managed to secure a profit of $505.

After taking a two-hour break, I would resume streaming on Twitch at 6 p.m. I dedicated my time to participating in tournaments until around 2:30 a.m., and the effort was definitely worthwhile. I managed to make some impressive progress, particularly in the major Sunday tournament on both platforms.

I achieved a seventh-place finish in the $215 buy-in event on BetMGM, earning $1,600. Additionally, I secured the 66th spot in the $100 Sunday Special on PokerStars, winning $177.

Throughout the day, I engaged in 20 tournament entries and concluded with a gain of $1,168.

Monday-Wednesday: The weekly online poker grind

On Monday, following a late night of poker, I found myself waking up later than my usual routine. Nevertheless, I commenced my session at noon and managed to have yet another fruitful day, wrapping up with a $1,106 profit after just four hours of play. Following this, from 4-7 p.m., I dedicated my time to editing videos for my YouTube channel.

My intention was to maintain the positive progress by aiming for another significant victory beginning at noon on Tuesday. However, despite earning $11 in profits within four hours of playing, I wouldn’t categorize it as a noteworthy achievement. Following the session, I dedicated an hour to editing YouTube videos.

Afterwards, I joined a Zoom call with my friend and skilled poker player, Dominic Choma, that lasted from 9 to 10:30 p.m. We delved into analyzing hands from the previous week, and I must say, conversing about poker with him has significantly improved my gameplay.

Dom is an exceptional player (far superior to me) and has consistently shown his willingness to assist me. I am truly grateful beyond words. The advantage of having a friend like him, whom I’ve known since fifth grade and who excels at poker, is simply invaluable.

Moving on to Wednesday, my aim was to maintain my winning streak. I began my session at noon and immediately got off to a strong start, making a profit of over $1,300.

However, to my dismay, due to a series of errors and an unfortunate streak of bad luck, I found myself at a loss of $467 after playing for four hours. Following that, I dedicated an additional hour to the monotonous task of editing videos on YouTube.

Thursday-Saturday: The departures from my poker routine

Normally, I dedicate four hours each on Thursdays and Fridays to streaming. However, this week my schedule deviated slightly. Whenever I find myself lagging behind in editing my vlogs, I set aside a day to catch up on those tasks. Therefore, on Thursday, I spent a whopping eight hours, from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., solely focused on editing videos.

Although editing videos requires a significant amount of time, I managed to complete all the pending work and felt relieved to finally cross it off my to-do list.

On Friday, there would be no poker or any content, as it would serve as a break before the $300 buy-in event at Motor City Casino in Detroit scheduled for Saturday.

Nowadays, the majority of my gaming experiences occur online. However, I had been aware of this monthly tournament held at Motor City for quite some time. With a $300 entry fee, participants have the chance to win a share of the impressive $100,000 prize pool.

The guarantee would be surpassed as the turnout was overwhelming. With a staggering number of over 550 entries and a prize pool exceeding $140,000, the tournament commenced promptly at 12:15 p.m.

Regrettably, my poker journey ended abruptly at 7 p.m. when there were still approximately 110 players left. However, I managed to have a wonderful time nonetheless. Despite not securing a spot in the prize pool, I had the opportunity to connect with “DrDadPoker,” a fellow Twitch streamer from Michigan, and also meet numerous individuals who have shown unwavering support for my poker channels throughout the past year.

After calculating my weekly results, I found that I had earned slightly more than $2,000 in profits from the tables.

Typically, I spend more time playing online in a week than just 24.5 hours. However, this week was different as I had to allocate extra hours for video editing and participating in the Motor City tournament. Despite this shift in focus, I am satisfied with the outcome and aim to finish 2021 on a high note.
