It is not unusual to receive a spam email claiming that you have won a significant amount of money.
Winning $3 million as a result of that email is an incredible achievement.
Recently, Laura Spears, a 55-year-old resident of Oakland County, came across an email in her spam folder from the Michigan Lottery. To her delight, the email revealed that she had won a staggering $3 million in the Mega Millions lottery.
In the Michigan Lottery, Spears stands out as one of the two recent champions who have each won over $1 million. Remarkably, since the beginning of 2021, a total of 63 fortunate players have secured winnings of $1 million or beyond in the Michigan Lottery.
Missing email from friend leads to $3 million
Upon realizing that the Mega Millions jackpot was increasing, Spears made the decision to purchase a ticket.
On December 31st, she bought an online ticket which consisted of the numbers 2, 5, 30, 46, and 61.
The white balls in the drawing were a perfect match for those five numbers. Additionally, Spears had the Megaplier, which boosted her winnings from $1 million to $3 million.
Spears’ sole issue was her lack of awareness about her victory at that moment. It was not until she was searching for an email from a friend that she stumbled upon her life-altering winnings.
Spears shared with the Michigan Lottery that upon noticing a Facebook advertisement about the escalating Mega Millions jackpot, they promptly accessed their account and purchased a ticket. A couple of days later, while searching for a misplaced email, Spears decided to inspect the spam folder in their email account. It was during this search that they stumbled upon an email from the Lottery, informing them of their prize-winning status. Overwhelmed by disbelief, Spears proceeded to log into their Lottery account to validate the information conveyed in the email. The realization that they had truly won $3 million remains an astonishing and surreal experience for them.
After claiming her prize at the Lottery headquarters, Spears announced her intention to generously share her winnings with her family and embark on an early retirement.
