UPDATE: PokerStars Michigan has resumed operations on Tuesday afternoon following an unexpected maintenance shutdown that began on Friday.

On Friday, the organization took to their Twitter account to inform users about the unplanned maintenance, causing the site to be temporarily unavailable. Consequently, all tournaments scheduled until 10 a.m. Monday had to be canceled. The company emphasized that the site’s downtime was unrelated to any data breach.

On Monday, Fox Bet, a brand under the Stars Group, experienced downtime. However, it was fully operational again by Tuesday morning.

Michigan’s regulated online poker industry, which is over a year old, has experienced its first days-long outage. PokerStars, the top online poker brand in the state, has been affected.

New Jersey and Pennsylvania were also being impacted by the outage.

Why is PokerStars Michigan down?

PokerStars initially reported the outage on Friday afternoon, yet no specific information has been provided except for labeling it as an unscheduled maintenance.

BetMGM Poker is the sole alternative available for online poker enthusiasts in Michigan.

Fox Bet also down (Update: It’s back up)

Fox Bet experienced technical difficulties until Monday, but the issue was resolved and it was up and running again on Tuesday morning.

Despite having multiple other choices, Michigan online sports bettors did not have the opportunity to wager on significant college basketball games, such as the clash between the University of Michigan and No. 4 Purdue, as Fox Bet failed to offer this option. Additionally, with the Super Bowl just a week away and the commencement of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, there are plenty of exciting sporting events to look forward to.

Despite being a well-known national brand and heavily advertised during Detroit Lions games on the network, Fox Bet has faced challenges in establishing a strong presence.

During the latest monthly report, Fox Bet ranked eighth among Michigan sportsbooks, with an online handle of slightly below $5.6 million. This amount falls over $20 million short compared to PointsBet Sportsbook MI, which secured the sixth position. Moreover, Fox Bet significantly lagged behind industry leaders like FanDuel Sportsbook MI, DraftKings Sportsbook MI, and BetMGM Michigan, who all surpassed $100 million in earnings for the month.
