In my previous blog post, I discussed my transition from a corporate job to becoming a poker content creator. However, you might still be curious about the daily or weekly routine involved in producing poker content.
In order to provide a glimpse behind the curtain, I will guide you through my most recent week of hard work.
Sunday: The featured online poker day, for good reason
Just like other online poker sites, the regulated online poker sites in Michigan also observe Sunday as the prime day for poker, hosting the most significant tournament guarantees of the week.
Every site has its own highlighted weekly tournament held on Sundays. BetMGM Poker hosts a $215 buy-in event, ensuring a prize pool of $40,000. On the other hand, PokerStars showcases its flagship Sunday Special tournament with a $100 buy-in and a guaranteed prize pool of $35,000.
On weekends, the cash games are particularly enticing, prompting me to kick off my Sunday poker session at noon by joining four cash game tables. Typically, I prefer playing with stakes of $2/$5, allowing a maximum buy-in of $500, as well as $1/$2 with a buy-in limit of $200. After engaging in play for four hours, I managed to secure a profit of $505.
Afterwards, I would indulge in a two-hour break before resuming my Twitch stream at 6 p.m. I dedicated my time to participating in tournaments until approximately 2:30 a.m., but the effort was highly rewarding. I managed to achieve impressive progress, even making significant strides in the major Sunday tournament featured on both platforms.
I achieved a seventh-place finish in the $215 buy-in event hosted on BetMGM, earning a prize of $1,600. Additionally, I secured the 66th spot in the $100 Sunday Special tournament organized by PokerStars, adding $177 to my winnings.
Throughout the day, I engaged in 20 tournament entries, ultimately concluding with a profit of $1,168.
Monday-Wednesday: The weekly online poker grind
After a late night of playing poker, I found myself waking up later than my usual routine on Monday. However, I managed to kickstart my day by starting my gaming session at noon. Within just four hours of play, I had yet another fruitful day, concluding with a satisfying profit of $1,106. Following that, from 4 to 7 p.m., I dedicated my time to editing videos for my YouTube channel.
I had aspirations to maintain the positive streak by securing another significant victory commencing at noon on Tuesday. However, despite accumulating $11 in winnings within a four-hour span, I couldn’t categorize it as a remarkable success. Following the gaming session, I dedicated an hour towards editing YouTube videos.
Afterwards, I joined a Zoom call with my friend Dominic Choma, a professional poker player, from 9 to 10:30 p.m. We delved into analyzing hands from the previous week, and I must say that conversing about poker with him has significantly improved my skills.
Dom, who is an exceptional player (far surpassing my own abilities), has always been incredibly supportive and helpful towards me. Words cannot express the gratitude I feel towards him. The benefits of having a friend like Dom, whom I’ve known since fifth grade, who also happens to be an outstanding poker player, are truly remarkable.
Moving on to Wednesday, my aim was to maintain my winning streak. I began my session at noon and immediately experienced a successful run. I found myself in a favorable position, having earned more than $1,300.
However, regrettably, due to a series of errors and an unfavorable sequence of events, I found myself losing $467 in just four hours. Consequently, I had to return to the tedious task of editing videos on YouTube for another hour.
Thursday-Saturday: The departures from my poker routine
Normally, I dedicate four hours of my time on Thursdays and Fridays to streaming. However, this week, my schedule deviated slightly. Whenever I find myself lagging behind in editing my vlogs, I set aside a whole day to catch up on tasks. Therefore, on Thursday, I dedicated a whopping eight hours, from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., solely to editing videos.
Although editing videos took up a significant amount of time, I managed to catch up on all the pending work. It felt amazing to finally tick that off my to-do list.
On Friday, there would be no poker or content-related activities, as it would serve as a break before the $300 buy-in event at Motor City Casino in Detroit scheduled for Saturday.
These days, I primarily engage in online gaming; however, I have been constantly hearing about the monthly tournament held at Motor City. This tournament boasts a guaranteed prize pool of $100,000, requiring a $300 buy-in.
With an astounding turnout surpassing expectations, the guarantee was easily surpassed. The tournament boasted a staggering number of over 550 entries, accumulating a prize pool that exceeded $140,000! The highly anticipated event commenced promptly at 12:15 p.m.
Regrettably, I got eliminated at 7 p.m. when there were approximately 110 players left. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Despite not securing a spot in the winning ranks, I had the opportunity to connect with “DrDadPoker,” a Twitch streamer from Michigan, and numerous individuals who have shown unwavering support for my poker channels throughout the past year.
After calculating my weekly outcomes, I discovered that I had earned a profit of slightly more than $2,000 from the tables.
Typically, I spend more time playing online in a week than the 24.5 hours I’ve dedicated this week. However, due to the Motor City tournament and my additional commitment to video editing, I had to allocate more hours than usual. Nevertheless, I am satisfied with the outcome and aim to finish 2021 on a high note!
